Unlabelled: Brachymetatarsia is an abnormal shortening of a metatarsal. It causes disruption of the normal metatarsal parabola, resulting in metatarsalgia, calluses and dislocation of the digits. Patients often express discontent with the appearance of their feet. Lengthening by distraction osteogenesis and 1-stage intercalary bone grafting procedures are the mainstays of operative treatment. We present a modified 1-stage technique, combining the use of a Chevron osteotomy of the fourth metatarsal with shortening osteotomies of the second and third metatarsals. Bone removed from the third metatarsal was used to lengthen the fourth. The Chevron segments provided mediolateral, dorsoplantar, and rotational stability. The technique was used on both feet of 1 patient. The mean increase in AOFAS score was 34.5 (right foot, 46; left foot, 23.) There were no complications. A 1-stage technique does not require an external fixator or postoperative manipulation and has a quicker healing time. Taking the bone graft from neighboring metatarsals decreases the discrepancy between metatarsal lengths. A smaller increase in the length of the fourth ray is then required, and the chance of neurovascular injury as a result of soft-tissue stretching is minimized. This technique allows restoration of the metatarsal parabola and provides good correction, immediate stability, and good integration.

Background: There are advantages and disadvantages to both immediate 1-stage and 2-stage autologous-breast reconstruction. The 2-stage procedure may suffer from a hitherto overlooked difficulty: the tissue expander may induce chest wall depression that may require using a heavier-than-expected flap to generate symmetrical breasts. We conducted a retrospective observational study to assess this phenomenon.

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO), leading to symptoms and adverse outcomes. Disopyramide, with its negative inotropic effects, is commonly used to reduce LVOTO in obstructive HCM (HOCM). This study evaluates the impact of disopyramide on functional capacity in HOCM patients.

Background: As for squamous (Sq)-NSCLC, Checkmate-017 trial showed a significant overall survival (OS) improvement in favor of Nivolumab (Nivo) over Docetaxel in 2nd-line. We hypothesized that anticipating Nivo use, as early switch maintenance after 1st-line chemotherapy (CHT), might have improved survival as compared to delayed 2nd-line treatment.
Methods: EDEN was an open-label, 2-arm, phase III study which randomized (1:1) stage IIIB/IV Sq-NSCLC pts non-progressive after 1st-line platinum-based CHT, to receive early Nivo as switch maintenance (Arm A) or standard best supportive care followed by 2nd-line Nivo at disease progression (Arm B).

Objectives: Accurate assessment of postoperative bone graft material changes after the 1-stage sinus lift is crucial for evaluating long-term implant survival. However, traditional manual labeling and segmentation of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images are often inaccurate and inefficient. This study aims to utilize artificial intelligence for automated segmentation of graft material in 1-stage sinus lift procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Background: The use of cell salvage and autologous blood transfusion is an important and widespread method of blood conservation during surgeries with expected high blood loss. The continuous autotransfusion device CATSmart (Fresenius Kabi, Germany) contains two new washing programs on the device called Flex wash 3 and Flex wash 5. To the best of our knowledge, there are no published clinical data regarding the performance of the two new washing programs.
