Lying is a pervasive phenomenon with important social and economic implications. However, despite substantial interest in the prevalence and determinants of lying, little is known about its biological foundations. Here we study a potential hormonal influence, focusing on the steroid hormone testosterone, which has been shown to play an important role in social behavior. In a double-blind placebo-controlled study, 91 healthy men (24.32±2.73 years) received a transdermal administration of 50 mg of testosterone (n=46) or a placebo (n=45). Subsequently, subjects participated in a simple task, in which their payoff depended on the self-reported outcome of a die-roll. Subjects could increase their payoff by lying without fear of being caught. Our results show that testosterone administration substantially decreases lying in men. Self-serving lying occurred in both groups, however, reported payoffs were significantly lower in the testosterone group (p<0.01). Our results contribute to the recent debate on the effect of testosterone on prosocial behavior and its underlying channels.

The intraprostatic inflammatory infiltrate is characterized by Th1 CD4 T cells, and its molecular mechanism is not well defined. This study explored the mechanisms responsible for the alteration of Th1/Th17 differentiation of CD4 T cells in chronic non-bacterial prostatitis (CNP). CNP rats were induced by the administration of testosterone and 17β-estradiol.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is one of the most commonly used food additives, known for its adverse health effects. Alogliptin (ALO) is a highly selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor, but its role in male reproductive function remains debated. The study was designed to evaluate and compare the potential of ALO in mitigating MSG-induced testicular toxicity in juvenile and adult male rats.

To investigate the synergistic effect of astaxanthin and curcumin on ovarian function in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) mice and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms, fifty 4-week-old female mice were randomly divided into five groups: (i) normal control group; (ii) PCOS model group; (iii) PCOS + astaxanthin group; (iv) PCOS + curcumin group; and (v) PCOS + astaxanthin-curcumin. Throughout the study, various parameters were meticulously evaluated, including serum levels of key reproductive hormones (testosterone (T), estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)), as well as monitoring alterations in the estrous cycle, follicle development, and ovulation rates. Additionally, markers of oxidative stress and inflammation were measured.

The present study evaluated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of (CA) fruit extract against bisphenol A (BPA)-induced ovarian injury in female Wistar rats. The antioxidant activity was estimated by the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and superoxide radical (NBT) content. For the in vivo analyses, 24 animals were divided into the following 4 groups: the control group; the BPA group (50 mg/kg BW BPA for 30 days); the BPA + CA group (50 mg/kg BW BPA and 50 mg/kg BW CA); and the CA group (50 mg/kg BW CA).

The research investigated the capacity of myo-inositol (MI) in order that it improves biochemical markers in serum and follicular fluid and, ultimately, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes of women with PCOS. Sixty infertile patients with PCOS, who were undergoing ovulation induction for ICSI, were randomly divided to two groups. The MI group received 2000 mg myo-inositol + 1 mg folic acid twice a day for 6 weeks with starting the ICSI cycle.
