The sonocatalytic degradation of azo dyes; methyl orange (MO) and rhodamine B (RhB) were studied catalyzed by cadmium selenide (CdSe)-graphene in dark ambiance. The CdSe-graphene composites were prepared by simple hydrothermal method. The characterizations of composites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), specific surface area (BET) and with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The UV-spectroscopic analysis of the dyes was done by measuring the change in absorbance. The degradation of the organic dyes was calculated based on the decrease in concentration of the dyes with respect to regular time intervals. The rate coefficients for the sonocatalytic process were successfully established and the reusability tests were done to test the stability of the used catalysts.

This study demonstrated a novel approach to accurately estimate 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in textile wastewater using a microbial consortium from food processing wastewater fixed on coconut fibers. Although glucose-glutamic acid (GGA) has been widely known as the most preferred substrates for microbial respiration, its calibration surprisingly resulted in an overestimation of BOD in textile wastewater due to its lower utilization rate compared to that of textile wastewater. After being adapted with a new nutrient environment composed of GGA and textile wastewater, the adapted packed-bed bioreactors (PBBRs) was capable of accurate estimation of BOD in textile wastewater using GGA standard solution.

The current research assessed the effectiveness of four hybrid constructed wetland (HCW) systems for the remediation of synthetic dye wastewater with Reactive Black 5 (RB5) azo dye. All HCW systems had identical configurations, consisting of a horizontal CW followed by a vertical CW, and operated under diverse conditions such as the presence of plants (Typha angustifolia), feeding modes (batch and continuous) and intermittent aeration (4 h day). Anaerobic-aerobic conditions simulated within the HCW systems were crucial in removing the pollutants from synthetic dye wastewater.
