Transmission matrix measurements of multimode fibers are now routinely performed in numerous laboratories, enabling control of the electric field at the distal end of the fiber and paving the way for the potential application to ultrathin medical endoscopes with high resolution. The same concepts are applicable to other areas, such as space division multiplexing, targeted power delivery, fiber laser performance, and the general study of the mode coupling properties of the fiber. However, the process of building an experimental setup and developing the supporting code to measure the fiber's transmission matrix remains challenging and time consuming, with full details on experimental design, data collection, and supporting algorithms spread over multiple papers or lacking in detail.

Topological Defect-Regulated Porous Carbon Nanoribbon for High-Performance Potassium-Ion Batteries.

Small

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Interface Science and Engineering in Advanced Materials Ministry of Education, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan, 030024, P. R. China.

Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) using carbonaceous anode materials have attracted a great deal of research interest. However, the large atomic size of potassium ions inevitably leads to huge volume expansion and the collapse of anodes during intercalation, which greatly hinders rate performance and cycling life. In this work, carbon nanotube-derived porous N-doped carbon nanoribbon (CNR) bundles are designed as an anode for PIBs.

2D black phosphorus (BP) degrades irreversibly into phosphate compounds under ambient conditions, which limits its application in a variety of fields. In this study, by coating amorphous ferric-cobalt oxides (CoFeO) on BP nanosheets, a multifunctional CoFeO@2D BP is successfully developed that effectively inhibited combustion and catalyzed CO oxidation to eliminate toxic gases. Strong affinity between transition-metal cations and BP allowed the uniform growth of amorphous ferric‒cobalt oxides on the BP surface, which effectively prevented the spontaneous degradation of 2D BP.

The development of nanopestcide carriers with high foliage adhesion remains a challenging task. Erythrocytes are double concave disc structure with thinner center and thicker rim and erythrocyte-like carriers would present enhanced foliar affinity. In this study, we fabricated novel rough-surfaced erythrocyte-like carriers for pesticide delivery.

Continuous Homogeneous Thin Liquid Film on a Single Cross-Shaped Profiled Fiber with High Off-Circularity: Toward Quick-Drying Fabrics.

Adv Mater

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Bio-Inspired Smart Interfacial Science and Technology of Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry, International Research Institute for Multidisciplinary Science, Beihang University, Beijing, 100191, P. R. China.

Quick-drying fabrics, renowned for their rapid sweat evaporation, have witnessed various applications in strenuous exercise. Profiled fiber textiles exhibit enhanced quick-drying performance, which is attributed to the excellent wicking effect within fibrous bundles, facilitating the rapid transport of sweat. However, the evaporation process is not solely influenced by macroscopic liquid transport but also by microscopic liquid spreading on the fibers where periodic liquid knots induced by spontaneous fluidic instability significantly reduce the evaporation area.
