Purpose: To investigate which muscular maneuvers provide larger electric activity (EA) of the suprahyoid (SH) and infrahyoid (IH) muscles to be used as surface electromyography (SEMG) signal normalization reference.

Methods: The electrical potentials of the SH and IH muscles of 12 subjects were evaluated using six muscular maneuvers, involving the position of the tongue and effort. It was selected as maximum voluntary sustained activity maneuver, the one having the minor coefficient of variation and the smallest value for each muscle group. The EA signal was converted using the root mean square in microvolts. It was considered then the maximum signal of each maneuver as the difference between the mean of three measures and the resting potential.

Results: The maneuvers that provided higher mean potentials with minor coefficient of variation and smallest P value were incomplete swallowing (IS) with effort (mean potential equal to 56.73±8.68 with coefficient of variation of 15.30%) in SH group, and tongue retracted with mouth open (TROM, mean potential equal to 46.57±7.83 with coefficient of variation of 16.81%) in IH group.

Conclusion: The IS with effort and TROM maneuvers should be considered for signal normalization in these muscles, respectively, and may provide conditions for using the SEMG in voice clinic.

Significance: The use of normalization standards in researches of SH and IH muscles in the voice area will allow comparisons among future works.

Background: The magnitude of inbreeding depression depends on the recessive burden of the individual, which can be traced back to the hidden (recessive) inbreeding load among ancestors. However, these ancestors carry different alleles at potentially deleterious loci and therefore there is individual variability of this inbreeding load. Estimation of the additive genetic value for inbreeding load is possible using a decomposition of inbreeding in partial inbreeding components due to ancestors.

A POCT assay based on commercial HCG strip for miRNA21 detection by integrating with RCA-HCR cascade amplification and CRISPR/Cas12a.

Beijing Key Laboratory for Separation and Analysis in Biomedicine and Pharmaceuticals, School of Medical Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, 100081, China.

A point-of-care testing (POCT) assay based on commercial HCG strip was proposed for miRNA21 detection by integrating RCA-HCR cascaded isothermal amplification with CRISPR/Cas12a. Three modules were integrated in the proposed platform: target amplification module composed of rolling circle amplification (RCA) cascaded with hybridization chain reaction (HCR), signal transduction module composed of CRISPR/Cas12a combined with HCG-agarose gel beads probes, and signal readout module composed of commercial HCG strips. The proposed RCA-HCR-CRISPR/Cas12a-HCG strip assay for miRNA21 detection had high sensitivity, and the limit of detection was as low as 37 fM.

The thermodynamic properties of frozen soil depend on its temperature state and ice content. Additionally, the permeability coefficient significantly affects both the temperature distribution and water movement. In this study, the dynamic variation of soil permeability coefficient with temperature is considered, the permeability coefficient is defined as a piecewise function with temperature as independent variable, and the hydrothermal coupling equation is established.

[Construction of black-bone silky fowl (Gallus gallus domesticus) families based on genetic diversity].

State Key Laboratory for Quality Ensurance and Sustainable Use of Dao-di Herbs, National Resource Center for Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Beijing 100700, China.

Black-bone silky fowls(Gallus gallus domesticus) have a long history of medicinal use, with the origin in Taihe county, Jiangxi province. The unclear family composition, inbreeding rate, and effective population size were inconducive to the resource conservation or breed improvement of black-bone silky fowls. A genome-wide analysis was performed to evaluate the genetic diversity of 80 black-bone silky fowls from random mating in three farms in 2021 in terms of minor allele frequency(MAF), expected heterozygosity(H_e), observed heterozygosity(H_o), effective population size(N_e), and runs of homozygosity(ROH).
