Published: July 2012

We report the fabrication of nanoporous liquid core lasers via direct laser writing based on two-photon absorption in combination with thiolene-chemistry. As gain medium Rhodamine 6G was embedded in the nanoporous polybutadiene matrix. The lasing devices with thresholds of 19 µJ/mm(2) were measured to have bulk refractive index sensitivities of 169 nm/RIU at a laser wavelength of 600 nm, demonstrating strongly increased overlap of the modes with the analyte in comparison to solid state evanescent wave sensors.

Helical Surface Relief Formation by Two-Photon Polymerization Reaction Using a Femtosecond Optical Vortex Beam.

Optical vortices possess a helical phase wavefront with central phase dislocation and orbital angular momentum. We demonstrated three-dimensional microstructure formation using a femtosecond optical vortex beam. Two-photon polymerization of photocurable resin was induced by long-term exposure, resulting in the fabrication of cylindrical structures.

Due to the high cost of each experimental run in additive manufacturing (AM), there has been a drive to develop simulations that can find the optimal processing parameters. The accuracy of these simulations is dependent on the accuracy of the material parameters recorded in literature. These reported parameters can vary widely resulting in differing simulation results.

Heat accumulation due to repetitive simple laser processing paths during building up a three-dimensional structure is a well-known issue that needs to be settled to reduce the excessively high residual stress and thermal deformation in a powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing process. Because of the dependency of laser path on the thermal dispersion, it is essential to analyze the heat accumulation phenomenon during laser processing. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis based on the volume of fraction method is used to optimize the laser path for minimizing the local heating up in the PBF process.

Effectiveness of CAD-CAM Milled Versus DMLS Titanium Frameworks for Hybrid Denture Prosthesis: A Narrative Review.

J Funct Biomater

December 2024

Department of Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry, College of Dentistry, Majmaah University, Al Majmaah 11952, Saudi Arabia.

This narrative review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) milled, and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) titanium frameworks in hybrid denture prostheses. A structured PICO analysis and a review of ten publications were used to compare titanium frameworks for hybrid dentures made through milling, DMLS, and CAD-CAM milling. Prosthesis success, bone loss, patient satisfaction, framework fit, and biofilm adhesion were among the outcome indicators.
