The range of sensor technologies for structural health monitoring (SHM) systems is expanding as the need for ongoing structural monitoring increases. In such a case, damage to the monitored structure elements is detected using an integrated network of sensors operating in real-time or periodically in frequent time stamps. This paper briefly introduces a new type of sensor, called a Customized Crack Propagation Sensor (CCPS), which is an alternative for crack gauges, but with enhanced functional features and customizability.

In this study, an approach has been proposed in response to the urgent need for a sensitive and stable method for glucose detection at low concentrations. Platinum octaethylporphyrin (PtOEP) was chosen as the probe and embedded into the matrix material to yield a glucose-sensing film, i.e.

Determining Tyre Adhesion Characteristics Based on the Road Tests of Automobiles.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2024

Institute of Vehicles and Construction Machinery Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology, 84 Narbutta Str., 02-524 Warsaw, Poland.

The motion of automobiles significantly depends on the conditions of interaction between a tyre and a road surface. One of the most frequently used ways of presenting the conditions of cooperation between a tyre and a road surface is a characteristic showing a longitudinal adhesion coefficient as a function of a longitudinal slip of a tyre. One of the methods for determining tyre-to-road adhesion characteristics is to use a special trailer combined with a towing vehicle.

Nano-positioning plays a very important role in applications such as scanning probe microscopy and optics. We report the development of a compact inertial nanopositioner along with fully computer interfaced electronics operating down to 2 K and its use in our fully automated needle-anvil type Point Contact Andreev Reflection (PCAR) apparatus. We also present the fully automated operational procedures using the LabVIEW interface with our home-built electronics.

Development and evaluation of a soft pneumatic muscle for elbow joint rehabilitation.

Front Bioeng Biotechnol

October 2024

Mechanical Department, Faculty of Engineering at Shoubra, Benha University, Cairo, Egypt.

Elbow joint rehabilitation presents a formidable challenge, underscored by the joint's complex biomechanics and high vulnerability to injuries and degenerative conditions. Despite the advancements in rehabilitative technology, current solutions such as rigid exoskeletons often fall short in providing the precision, flexibility, and customization needed for effective treatment. Although traditional robotic aids, such as rigid exoskeletons, help recover, they lack in providing sufficient flexibility, comfort, and easy customization with no need for complicated calculation and complex design considerations.
