Objective: To explore the application value of needle electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction study (NCS) in the forensic appraisal; to provide scientific basis for establishing normative and unified assessment methods of the peripheral nerve study in forensic medicine.

Methods: One hundred and sixty-four samples with injured peripheral nerve (injury group) and 138 samples with normal peripheral nerve (control group) were collected and tested with methods of EMG and NCS respectively. The relevance rate of two methods were compared and statistical analysis was performed.

Results: In the injury group, there was no statistical difference on the relevance rate between the application of EMG and that of NCS (P > 0.05). In the control group, there was no statistical difference on the negative rate between the two methods (P > 0.05). The false negative rate of the injury group and the false positive rate of the control group were both 0% when using the two methods together.

Conclusion: When the injured peripheral nerve in forensic appraisal is in doubt, application of both EMG and NCS could disclose truth from falsehood. The accuracy and credibility of identification results could be enhanced.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is an interventional procedure that has been used to treat chronic back pain for over 50 years; this unique case report demonstrates the effectiveness of pulsed radiofrequency ablation (PRFA) on the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) in the treatment of chronic radicular pain (Russo et al., 2021, J Pain Res, 14, 3897). The RFA provides pain relief by using thermal energy to disrupt peripheral nerves carrying nociceptive signals back to the central nervous system (Abd-Elsayed et al.

Plp1-lineage Schwann cells (SCs) of peripheral nerve play a critical role in vascular remodeling and osteogenic differentiation during the early stage of bone healing, and the abnormal plasticity of SCs would jeopardize the bone regeneration. However, how Plp1-lineage cells respond to injury and initiate the vascularized osteogenesis remains incompletely understood. Here, by employing single-cell transcriptional profiling combined with lineage-specific tracing models, we uncover that Plp1-lineage cells undergoing injury-induced glia-to-MSCs transition contributed to osteogenesis and revascularization in the initial stage of bone injury.

The EIF4G1 gene has been considered an autosomal dominant cause of Parkinson disease (PD), even if its role is still debated. The objective of this study was to describe the phenotype and α-synuclein distribution in peripheral tissues in 2 related PD patients (mother and daughter), who are carriers of the same variant in exon 10 of EIF4G1 (c.1216G>A, p.

Background: Pancreas Transplantation (PT) provides optimal treatment for patients with severe complicated Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). Restoration of beta-cell mass allows return to euglycaemia and insulin independence. We aimed to examine its impact on the secondary complications associated with severe T1DM including diabetic eye disease, neuropathy and cardiovascular disease.
