A significant increase of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OH-dG) was observed in the kidney DNA of rats given a renal carcinogen, the ferric complex of nitrilotriacetate (Fe-NTA) by single i.p. injection. By contrast, non- or weakly carcinogenic compounds, aluminum-nitrilotriacetate complex (Al-NTA), non-complexed NTA (Na2NTA) and ferric chloride had no effect on 8-OH-dG production in the kidney DNA. These results suggest the involvement of active oxygen radicals in Fe-NTA carcinogenesis.

Members of the piggyBac superfamily of DNA transposons are widely distributed in host genomes ranging from insects to mammals. The human genome has retained five piggyBac-derived genes as domesticated elements although they are no longer mobile. Here, we have investigated the transposition properties of piggyBat from Myotis lucifugus, the only known active mammalian DNA transposon, and show that its low activity in human cells is due to subterminal inhibitory DNA sequences.

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic metal primarily found as a by-product of zinc production. Cd was a proven carcinogen, and exposure to this metal has been linked to various adverse health effects, which were first reported in the mid-19th century and thoroughly investigated by the 20th century. The toxicokinetics and dynamics of Cd reveal its propensity for long biological retention and predominant storage in soft tissues.

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition caused by the inheritance of alleles with >200 CGG repeats in the 5' UTR of the fragile X messenger ribonucleoprotein 1 () gene. These full mutation (FM) alleles are associated with DNA methylation and gene silencing, which result in intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and social and behavioral issues. Mosaicism for both the size of the CGG repeat tract and the extent of its methylation is commonly observed in individuals with the FM.

: Growth arrest and DNA damage 45G (GADD45G) is a family of proteins involved in DNA damage response and cell growth arrest. In this study, we show evidence that urinary GADD45G protein is associated with the progression of IgA nephropathy. : Patients diagnosed with IgA nephropathy without reversible acute kidney injury at study initiation and with at least one subsequent serum creatinine (SCr) measurement were included.

Background: Cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (CKI) represents a severe renal dysfunction characterized by DNA damage and tubular injury. Fraxetin, derived from the Chinese herb Qinpi (Fraxinus bungeana A.DOC), is recognized for its neuroprotective effects and has been used for the prevention of various diseases.
