Published: March 2013

Objectives: To understand the predictors of controlled drinking in Korean male workers with a structural equation modeling based on Ajzen's theory of planned behavior.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used with a total of 315 male workers from 20 workplaces.

Results: The modified model accounted for 58% of intentions and 20% of controlled drinking behavior. The component most increasing intentions was perceived behavior control (PBC), and the components increasing controlled drinking behavior were intentions and PBC in the modified model.

Conclusions: Intervention programs should be designed to increase intentions and PBC to improve controlled drinking behavior in male workers.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of added probiotic supplementation in the mother's diet on the crying frequency of babies with infantile colic, maternal attachment, and maternal quality of life.

Design And Settings: 36 mothers and their babies were randomized into two groups.

Background: Prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancy (AEP) involves reducing risky alcohol consumption among women at-risk for pregnancy, using effective contraception among women drinking at risky levels to prevent pregnancy, or both. This study presents the outcomes of a randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy of Native CHOICES, a culturally tailored adaptation of the CHOICES intervention, among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) women.

Methods: AI/AN women aged 18-44 who were at-risk for an AEP were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the Native CHOICES intervention or a waitlist control group.

Background: Caffeine, identified as a central nervous system stimulant in foods, beverages (coffee, tea, chocolate), and medications, has been focused on its ergogenic properties, enhancing physical performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the caffeine intake (from coffee) and fat-free mass index (FFMI).

Materials And Methods: We carried out a cohort study that included 3,466 women and 3,145 men aged ≥20 years who were intaking caffeine.

BACKGROUNDStudies have demonstrated the role of ghrelin in alcohol-related behaviors and consumption. Blockade of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR), which is the ghrelin receptor, has been shown to decrease alcohol drinking and reward-related behaviors across several animal models. We previously conducted a human study testing a GHSR inverse agonist/competitive antagonist, PF-5190457, in individuals who are heavy drinkers and showed its safety when coadministered with alcohol.

Background: Delayed gastric emptying of liquids may heighten the risk of aspiration reflux in elderly individuals. To investigate the gastric emptying of an oral supplement containing 5% dextrose solutions before sedation for gastroscopy.

Patients And Methods: A total of 100 elderly patients who were scheduled for elective gastroscopy were randomly assigned to two groups: the NPO(nil per os ) group and the dextrose solution ingestion group, which ingested a 5% dextrose solution (5 ml/kg) two hours before the procedure.
