Toxicology Effects of Cadmium in : Accumulation, Oxidative Stress, Microbial Community, and Transcriptome Analysis.

Int J Mol Sci

Guangdong Laboratory for Lingnan Modern Agriculture, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Agricultural & Rural Pollution Abatement and Environmental Safety, College of Natural Resources and Environment, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution poses an important problem, but limited information is available about the toxicology effects of Cd on freshwater invertebrates. We investigated the accumulation, oxidative stress, microbial community changes, and transcriptomic alterations in apple snails ) under Cd stress. The snails were exposed to the 10 μg/L Cd solution for 16 days, followed by a 16-day elimination period.

In the domain of food science, apple grading holds significant research value and application potential. Currently, apple grading predominantly relies on manual methods, which present challenges such as low production efficiency and high subjectivity. This study marks the first integration of advanced computer vision, image processing, and machine learning technologies to design an innovative automated apple grading system.

Evaluation of genomic and phenomic prediction for application in apple breeding.

BMC Plant Biol

January 2025

Molecular Plant Breeding, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, ETH Zurich, Universitaetstrasse 2, Zurich, 8092, Switzerland.

Background: Apple breeding schemes can be improved by using genomic prediction models to forecast the performance of breeding material. The predictive ability of these models depends on factors like trait genetic architecture, training set size, relatedness of the selected material to the training set, and the validation method used. Alternative genotyping methods such as RADseq and complementary data from near-infrared spectroscopy could help improve the cost-effectiveness of genomic prediction.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a devastating illness with mortality rates approaching 26 %, with 4 % of patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) receiving this diagnosis. In this retrospective cohort study, the Pediatric Health Information System database was used to compare outcomes among patients with NEC diagnoses between 2019 and 2021 by CHD. The association of clinical factors with the outcomes of interest were compared using multivariable logistic regression.

Plant-based dietary patterns have been demonstrated to reduce the risk of non-communicable disease (NCD), including cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes, cancer, and all-cause mortality. Phenolic compounds (PC), abundant in plant-based foods, have been considered as instrumental in this attenuation of NCD risk. We evaluated the association between dietary intake of PC and the risk of all-cause mortality in a relatively young Mediterranean cohort of 18,173 Spanish participants in the "Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra" (SUN) project, after a median follow-up of 12.
