Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between preoperative cystatin C levels and the risk of serious postoperative complications in esophageal cancer (EC) patients, utilizing advanced machine learning (ML) methodologies.

Methods: We conducted an observational cohort study, involving 524 EC patients from December 2014 to July 2022. ML models, including logistic regression (LR) and multilayer perceptron (MLP), were applied to investigate the relationship between cystatin C and the serious postoperative complications.

Chronic constipation is one of the common gastrointestinal disorders, with an incidence rate that is gradually increasing yearly and becoming an important chronic disease that affects people's health and quality of life. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the basic and clinical research of chronic constipation, especially the gut microbiota therapy methods have received increasing attention. Therefore, under the initiative of the Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Society for the Promotion of Human Health Science and Technology, and Committee on Gut Microecology and Fecal Microbiota Transplantation, experts from relevant fields in China have been organized to establish the "" committee.

Dynamic extracellular matrix (ECM) mechanics plays a crucial role in tissue development and disease progression through regulation of stem cell behavior, differentiation, and fate determination. Periodontitis is a typical case characterized by decreased ECM stiffness within diseased periodontal tissues as well as with irreversible loss of osteogenesis capacity of periodontal tissue-derived human periodontal tissue-derived MSCs (hMSCs) even returning back to a physiological mechanical microenvironment. We hypothesized that the hMSCs extendedly residing in the soft ECM of diseased periodontal tissues may memorize the mechanical information and have further effect on ultimate cell fate besides the current mechanical microenvironment.
