Recently, 5-hydroxymethyl cytosine (5-hmC) has been discovered as a naturally existed component of normal mammalian genomic DNAs, and it is generally accepted as the sixth base in the genome. This review will introduce the recent advances in the researches on 5-hmC of its formation, tissue-specific distribution, the roles in cell differentiation and gene expression regulation, and the connections as a epigenetic marker with diseases, such as various cancers. We also summarized the current development of the methodologies to detect methylated or hydroxymetholated cytosines of cells at the genomic levels.

Background: Petroclival meningiomas are still a neurosurgical challenge due to their proximity to cranial nerves and cerebral vasculature along the surgical corridor. The usual extension of large petroclival meningiomas is along the posterior fossa, frequently compromising and displacing adjunct cranial nerves such as the sixth and seventh-eight cranial nerve complex with brainstem compression, causing progressive neurological deficit and severe headache. The goal of sizeable petroclival meningioma surgery treatment is a maximal resection with preservation of neurological function.

Enhancing the decomposition rate of ammonium perchlorate (AP), the most common oxidizer in solid propellants, is important for improving propellant performance. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have been developed as key materials for catalyzing AP decomposition, as they can achieve good dispersion of active sites through in-situ decomposition. Despite having considerable potential, the structural transformation process and catalytic performance of MOFs in AP decomposition are still unclear, which seriously hinders their application in the field of AP decomposition.

Background: Radiotherapy for pelvic malignant tumors inevitably causes intestinal tissue damage. The regeneration of intestinal epithelium after radiation injury relies mainly on crypt fission. However, little is known about the regulatory mechanisms of crypt fission events.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccumulation of free α-globin is a critical factor in the pathogenesis of β-thalassemia. Autophagy plays a crucial role in clearing toxic free α-globin, thereby reducing disease severity. However, the impact of natural mutations in autophagy-related genes (ATGs) on the phenotypic variability of β-thalassemia remains unclear.

MEDICE Arzneimittel Pütter GmbH & Co. KG, Iserlohn, Germany.
Background And Objectives: The efficacy and safety of modified-release methylphenidate (MPH-MR) in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have been shown in both pediatric and adult Caucasian patients. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of MPH-MR in Chinese children and adolescents with ADHD.
Methods: MICCA was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted at 19 sites in China from September 2018 to July 2021.
