The water cycle in the western United States changed dramatically over glacial cycles. In the past 20,000 years, higher precipitation caused desert lakes to form which have since dried out. Higher glacial precipitation has been hypothesized to result from a southward shift of Pacific winter storm tracks. We compared Pacific Ocean data to lake levels from the interior west and found that Great Basin lake high stands are older than coastal wet periods at the same latitude. Westerly storms were not the source of high precipitation. Instead, air masses from the tropical Pacific were transported northward, bringing more precipitation into the Great Basin when coastal California was still dry. The changing climate during the deglaciation altered precipitation source regions and strongly affected the regional water cycle.

In recent years, the Telaaobao Mineral Area in the Northwestern Ordos Basin has been newly discovered as a uranium mineralization area with its ore-bearing target layer located within the Lower Cretaceous Huanhe Formation, belonging to a new area and a new layer, and has great uranium deposit formation potential. In order to deeply study the issues of the ore-bearing target in this area, such as the petrology, mineralogy, and uranium mineralization of the ore-bearing sandstone, based on the data from field geological investigation and drill core logging, the petrological characteristics of the ore-bearing sandstone of the target layer are preliminarily interpreted using a polarizing microscope and a scanning electron microscope, and the uranium mineral composition, uranium occurrence state, and uranium deposit mineralization are investigated through the electron probe microanalysis technique in this paper. The results show that the target layer sandstone in the study area has the characteristics of proximal deposit and has undergone significant epigenetic alteration and transformation, producing favorable conditions for uranium- and oxygen-containing water transportation and uranium mineralization.

Neonicotinoid pesticides (NNs) are increasingly used in agriculture, which may pose significant threats to aquatic organisms in receiving rivers. However, no studies have explored their entire process from application and transport to receptors within river basins. Here, we estimated the usage and loss of NNs in the Dongting Lake Basin in China using modeling approaches, and assessed NNs-associated aquatic ecological risks.

Soil moisture is a key parameter for the exchange of substance and energy at the land-air interface, timely and accurate acquisition of soil moisture is of great significance for drought monitoring, water resource management, and crop yield estimation. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is sensitive to soil moisture, but the effects of vegetation on SAR signals poses challenges for soil moisture retrieval in areas covered with vegetation. In this study, based on Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 optical remote sensing data, a coupling approach was employed to retrieval surface soil moisture over dense vegetated areas.

The fishery resources in the Yangtze River Estuary (YRE) have declined drastically because of overfishing and environmental changes, leading to ecosystem degradation of the YRE, and bringing numerous rare fish species to the brink of extinction. As a new technology with great prospects for popularization and application, environmental DNA (eDNA) technology has been utilized and proven by many studies to have high potential in revealing the various species' biodiversity. In this study, we analyzed the species composition and diversity of the Yangtze River Estuary using a combination of eDNA technology and bottom trawling approaches, and later, the comparison of both methods.

The Yellow River Basin is China's grain production base and ecological barrier, with an important strategic position. Therefore, it is of great significance to analyze spatiotemporal pattern of ecosystem services and agricultural green, and further exploring the driving mechanism of coordination using the GTWR model to examine how the Yellow River Basin's agriculture evolve sustainably. The results indicate that: (1) In 2011-2021, the Yellow River Basin's ecosystem service value showed a state of growth first and then decline, indicating that the decrease trend cannot be ignored; the Yellow River Basin has seen a steady rise in agricultural green level, with regional disparities progressively disappearing.
