The key is symmetry! A convergent synthetic approach of the highly cytotoxic natural product (-)-callystatin A was developed assembling three fragments through Julia-Kocienski olefination and Stille cross-coupling. The new strategy relies on a pivotal local symmetry of the target molecule. In this preliminary study, particular attention was devoted to facilitate the catalytic enantiocontrol of strategic stereogenic centers present in each of the fragments (see scheme).

Periodically driven closed quantum systems are expected to eventually heat up to infinite temperature ; reaching a steady state described by a circular orthogonal ensemble (COE). However, such finite driven systems may exhibit sufficiently long prethermal regimes; their properties in these regimes are qualitatively different from that of their corresponding infinite temperature steady states. These, often experimentally relevant, prethermal regimes host a wide range of phenomena; they may exhibit dynamical localization and freezing, host Floquet scars, display signatures of Hilbert space fragmentation, and exhibit time crystalline phases.

Topological design of π electrons in zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbons (ZGNRs) leads to a wealth of magnetic quantum phenomena and exotic quantum phases. Symmetric ZGNRs typically show antiferromagnetically coupled spin-ordered edge states. Eliminating cross-edge magnetic coupling in ZGNRs not only enables the realization of a class of ferromagnetic quantum spin chains, enabling the exploration of quantum spin physics and entanglement of multiple qubits in the one-dimensional limit, but also establishes a long-sought-after carbon-based ferromagnetic transport channel, pivotal for ultimate scaling of GNR-based quantum electronics.

A generalized extraction procedure for magnetic interactions using effective Hamiltonians is presented that is applicable to systems with more than two sites featuring local spins ≥ 1. To this end, closed, nonrecursive expressions pertaining to chains of arbitrary equal spins are derived with the graphical method of angular momentum. The method is illustrated by extracting magnetic couplings from ab initio calculations on a [CaMnO] cubane.

In this study, we develop an asymmetric Pd-Ag diatomic site on the surface of g-CN for the selective electrocatalytic semihydrogenation of alkynes. The single Pd atom catalyst, which has a locally symmetric Pd coordination, was inactive for the semihydrogenation of phenylacetylene in a 1 M KOH and 1,4-dioxane solution at an applied potential of -1.
