In this paper we present a mathematical model for the aggregation and diffusion of Aβ amyloid in the brain affected by Alzheimer's disease, at the early stage of the disease. The model is based on a classical discrete Smoluchowski aggregation equation modified to take diffusion into account. We also describe a numerical scheme and discuss the results of the simulations in the light of the recent biomedical literature.

Considering the multifactorial and complex nature of Alzheimer's disease and the requirement of an optimum multifunctional anti-Alzheimer's agent, a series of triazole tethered coumarin-eugenol hybrid molecules was designed as potential multifunctional anti-Alzheimer's agents using donepezil and a template. The designed hybrid molecules were synthesized a click chemistry approach and preliminarily screened for cholinesterase and Aβ aggregation inhibition. Among them, AS15 emerged as a selective inhibitor of AChE (IC = 0.

Objectives: Venous thromboembolism is a highly prevalent condition after polytrauma, and recognized as an important factor contributing to poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk factors for lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (LEDVT) in a severely traumatized population and to evaluate their predictive value for LEDVT.
Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center observational study.

Purpose: To explore the information in routine digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and evaluate deep learning algorithms for automated identification of anatomic location in DSA sequences.
Methods: DSA of the abdominal aorta, celiac, superior mesenteric, inferior mesenteric, and bilateral external iliac arteries was labeled with the anatomic location from retrospectively collected endovascular procedures performed between 2010 and 2020 at a tertiary care medical center. "Key" images within each sequence demonstrating the parent vessel and the first bifurcation were additionally labeled.

As one of the most commonly used general anesthetics (GAs) in surgery, numerous studies have demonstrated the detrimental effects of sevoflurane exposure on myelination in the developing and elderly brain. However, the impact of sevoflurane exposure on intact myelin structure in the adult brain is barely discovered. Here, we show that repeated sevoflurane exposure, but not single exposure, causes hypomyelination and abnormal ultrastructure of myelin sheath in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of adult male mice, which is considered as a critical brain region for general anesthesia mediated consciousness change.

The quantitative assessment of policies aimed at climate change mitigation requires rigorously identifying abnormal changes in greenhouse gas emissions. We present a new dataset of robust level changes in greenhouse gas emissions that cannot be explained by aggregate socioeconomic fluctuations. Modern methods of structural break identification based on two-way fixed effects models are employed to estimate the size of significant level changes in emissions.
