Blackened catalyst: Zeolites with large external surface area and mesopore volume were synthesized by a one-pot templating strategy, in which the crystallization proceeded concurrently with in situ carbonization templating to produce a mesoporous structure. The hierarchical materials exhibited superior catalytic performance over conventional zeolites in Friedel-Crafts acylation of anisole.

Biomimetic calcification is a micro-crystallization process that mimics the natural biomineralization process, where biomacromolecules regulate the formation of inorganic minerals. In this study, it is presented that a protein-assisted biomimetic calcification method for the in situ synthesis of nitrogen-doped metal-organic framework (MOF) materials. A series of unique core-shell structures are created by utilizing proteins as templates and guiding agents in the nucleation step, creating ideal conditions for shell growth.

Plastic mulching film is ubiquitous in modern agriculture for its heat preservation and moisture retention functions. However, plastic mulching film waste accumulated on land results in microplastic pollution, posing potential hazards as these micro and nanoplastics can enter the food chain. Chemical upcycling of waste mulching film is an emerging strategy to realize sustainable development and circular economy.

Abstract: The effects of post-hydration heating over a broad range of temperatures are evident in many Mighei-like carbonaceous (CM) chondrites as a variety of mineral transitions. To better understand these processes and how a CM chondrite's starting composition may have affected them, we experimentally heated two meteorites with different degrees of aqueous alteration, Allan Hills 83100 and Murchison, at 25 °C temperature steps from 200 °C to 950 °C and 300 °C to 750 °C, respectively. During heating, synchrotron in situ X-ray diffraction patterns were collected.

In this study, in situ formed silica nanoparticles (SNPs) emitting second-level phosphorescence at room temperature without a phosphorescent dopant have been achieved for the first time. This phosphorescence is achieved through the simple in situ formation of carbonaceous defects (CDs) within the SNPs, followed by passivation of the CDs by a robust silica matrix. The CD in the SNPs, termed CD@SNPs, are synthesized by cross-linking tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES), and these cross-linked components create a porous structure within the silica matrix.

Mesophase pitch is regarded as a profoundly promising candidate for the production of advanced carbon-based multifunctional materials such as carbon fibers, carbon microspheres, and carbon foams owing to its excellent intrinsic properties. Consequently, a deeper understanding of pyrolytic chemistry is indispensable for the efficient and environmentally friendly utilization of mesophase pitch. In this study, details about the structure compositions and microscopic morphologies of petroleum-driven mesophase pitch (pMP) were investigated through ultimate, FTIR, XPS, and C-NMR analyses.
