The genetic basis of complex traits involves the function of many genes with small effects as well as complex gene-gene and gene-environment interactions. As one of the major players in complex diseases, the role of gene-environment interactions has been increasingly recognized. Motivated by epidemiology studies to evaluate the joint effect of environmental mixtures, we developed a functional varying-index coefficient model (FVICM) to assess the combined effect of environmental mixtures and their interactions with genes, under a longitudinal design with quantitative traits.

Mitochondria derive the majority of their lipids from other organelles through contact sites. These lipids, primarily phosphoglycerolipids, are the main components of mitochondrial membranes. In the cell, neutral lipids like triacylglycerides (TAGs) are stored in lipid droplets, playing an important role in maintaining cellular health.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive cancer with poor outcomes due to frequent recurrence, metastasis, and resistance to treatment. A major contributor to this resistance is the tumor's ability to suppress natural killer (NK) cells, which are key players in the immune system's fight against cancer. In PDAC, the tumor microenvironment (TME) creates conditions that impair NK cell function, including reduced proliferation, weakened cytotoxicity, and limited tumor infiltration.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one the most prevalent head and neck cancers and represents a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The main established risk factors for OSCC include tobacco and alcohol consumption and betel quid chewing, which may contribute alone or in combination with other environmental factors to carcinogenesis. The oral microbiota is emerging as a key player in the establishment of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that may trigger or promote carcinogenesis, including in the oral cavity.

Background: Participation in pickleball and other racket sports is growing, particularly among older adults who may also be candidates for joint arthroplasty (JA). Currently, there is limited data on performance, safety, and return to racket sports after JA.
Methods: An online survey was sent to 7,200 patients who had undergone at least one primary JA at a single academic center over the past 10 years (five surgeons).
