Urine is one of the diagnostically important bio fluids, as it has different metabolites in it, where many of them are native fluorophores. Native fluorescence characteristics of human urine samples were studied using excitation-emission matrices (EEMs) over a range of excitation and emission wavelengths, and emission spectra at 405 nm excitation, to discriminate patients with cancer from the normal subjects. The fluorescence spectra of urine samples of cancer patients exhibit considerable spectral differences in both EEMs and emission spectra with respect to normal subjects. Different ratios were calculated using the fluorescence intensity values of the emission spectra and they were used as input variables for a multiple linear discriminant analysis across different groups. The discriminant analysis classifies 94.7% of the original grouped cases and 94.1% of the cross-validated grouped cases correctly. Based on the fluorescence emission characteristics of urine and statistical analysis, it may be concluded that the fluorophores nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and flavins may be considered as metabolomic markers of cancer.

Aromatic π-complexes play a significant role in various chemical and biological systems, significantly influencing their physico-chemical and spectroscopic properties. The identification of new compounds capable of π-complex formation is therefore of great interest. The paper investigates the fluorescent properties of 1,5-diisocyanonaphthalene (1,5-DIN) in different aromatic solvents, demonstrating its potential for distinguishing between aromatics based on emission spectra.

Background: Although amyloid deposition in brain is one of the hallmark pathological features of Alzheimer's disease (AD), the upstream events and its molecular environment in AD brain remain largely unknown. Recent advances in analytical methods such as mass spectrometry can provide the cutting-edge tools to unveil the AD pathogenesis at molecular and atomic level.

Method: In order to gain the comprehensive information about AD pathology at molecular level, postmortem brain sections of AD patients were analyzed by the hybrid molecular imaging methods composed of the conventional histological analyses, matrix assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) for small molecules, laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) imaging for metals, and particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) imaging for elements.

Luminescence of the CsZrCl under High Pressure.

Inorg Chem

January 2025

Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Al. Lotników 32/46, Warsaw 02-668, Poland.

The photoluminescence (PL) and Raman spectra of the CsZrCl crystal over a wide range of pressures were studied in this work for the first time. PL measurements were performed up to 10 GPa, while the Raman spectra were measured up to 20 GPa. The PL data revealed a linear blue shift of the emission maximum from about 2.

This study evaluates the deposition of diamond-like carbon (DLC) films with copper impurities on a glass substrate using simultaneous direct current (DC) and radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. The structural, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties, as well as the surface topography of the films, were investigated under various DC power levels using Raman spectroscopy, ellipsometry, UV-VIS, I-V measurements, nanoindentation, AFM, and FESEM. Results indicate that increasing the DC power to the graphite target from 60 to 120 , while maintaining a constant 10  of RF power to the copper target, enhances the optical absorption coefficient of the films and increases the optical bandgap from 0.

As the investigation of high efficiency thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials become more mature, regulating the emission properties for single organic luminescence molecules has gained increasing interest recently. Herein, the donor-acceptor compounds F-AQ comprised of fluorene and anthraquinone is reported, and it exhibits a polymorphism with muti-color emission and TADF from high-level intersystem crossing (hRISC). The photodynamics and excited-state transient species were studied by femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA) spectroscopy.
