The polymeric title compound, [Cu(C(6)H(2)O(5))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(C(5)H(10)N(2)O)](n), is composed of an infinite chain formed along [100] by linking the (1,3-dimethyl-imidazolin-2-one)(1,10-phenanthroline)copper(II) units with two O atoms of two carboxyl-ate groups of the furan-2,5-dicarboxyl-ate ligand. The Cu(II) atom, which lies on a twofold rotation axis, displays a square-pyramidal coordination. The dihedral angles of the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand with respect to the furan rings of the carboxyl-ate anions that are connected to the metal atom are 62.18 (11) and 88.27 (12)°.

Seabirds in crisis: Plastic ingestion induces proteomic signatures of multiorgan failure and neurodegeneration.

Sci Adv

March 2025

Tasmanian School of Medicine, College of Health and Medicine, University of Tasmania, 17 Liverpool Street, Hobart, Tasmania 7000, Australia.

Understanding plastics' harmful impacts on wildlife would benefit from the application of hypothesis agnostic testing commonly used in medical research to detect declines in population health. Adopting a data-driven, proteomic approach, we assessed changes in 745 proteins in a free-living nonmodel organism with differing levels of plastic exposure. Seabird chicks heavily affected by plastic ingestion demonstrated a range of negative health consequences: Intracellular components that should not be found in the blood were frequently detected, indicative of cell lysis.

Early onset sleep disorders predict severity, progression and death in multiple system atrophy.

J Neurol

March 2025

IRCCS Istituto Delle Scienze Neurologiche Di Bologna, Ospedale Bellaria, Via Altura 3, 40139, Bologna, Italy.

Background: Early stridor onset (≤ 3 years from disease onset) is a predictor of shorter survival in Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), but its role on disease progression is not yet established. In MSA, previous studies on trajectories of disease did not include stridor and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) as clinical variable. The aims of the study were: (1) to investigate disease progression in MSA patients with early stridor onset and with early stridor and/or RBD onset; (2) to assess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of neurofilament light chain protein (NfL) in MSA patients with early onset sleep disorders.

Renowned for its invaluable undercoat, the cashmere goat is well known. The growth of cashmere fibre initiates when the relatively inactive telogen stage transitions to the anagen stage, which involves active proliferation. However, the molecular mechanisms responsible for this process are still unclear.

In the present work, a novel pyrazole-basedchitosan Schiff base material was prepared using 5-(4-Methoxyphenoxy)-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-carboxaldehydeand was modified using MoS-CN, where the nanoparticles get embedded within the polymeric matrix. Further composite material was analyzed and characterized using various analytical techniques such as XRD, SEM, FTIR, EDS, BET and TGA. The adsorbent material was analyzed for the adsorptive take-up process with a metal ion concentration ranging from 20 to 100 mgL and the adsorption occurred due to the interaction between the metal ions and the chitosan Schiff base.
