The cost of healthcare procedures is continuously rising and more emphasis is being placed on increasing the quality and effectiveness of healthcare services. A combined total of 711,000 hip and knee arthroplasties are performed yearly. This figure is expected to increase to 4 million by the year 2030. The American Joint Replacement Registry has been developed to monitor the performance of devices, determine the cost-effectiveness of procedures, and increase patient safety for individuals in need of hip and knee replacement procedures.

Background: Tranexamic acid (TXA) use has become the gold standard in total joint arthroplasty to limit intraoperative blood loss and transfusion rates. More recently, the indications for TXA have expanded to knee and shoulder arthroscopy with promising early results. However, the effectiveness of TXA during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) is unclear.

This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of newly approved Janus kinase (JAK) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) inhibitors in patients with moderately-to-severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with inadequate response to or intolerance of conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of all placebo-controlled randomized trials assessing baricitinib, sarilumab, and upadacitinib treatment in RA, published in PubMed and CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) databases up to October 2023. The study outcomes involved the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 20%, 50%, and 70% responses, Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ-DI), Disease Activity Score in 28 joints (DAS28), serious adverse events, and adverse events leading to drug discontinuation.
