Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms in a two-dimensional lattice, has attracted considerable attention owing to its unique physical, chemical and mechanical properties. In particular, because of its excellent thermal properties such as high thermal conductivity and good thermal stability, graphene has been regarded as a one of the promising candidates for the reinforcing fillers on the polymer composites field. In this study, we prepared the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite by a simple solution mixing process, and examined the thermal reinforcing effects of GO on a PMMA matrix. Using thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimeter, and thermal conductivity meter, we investigated the effects of GO on the thermal properties of PMMA/GO nanocomposites. With 3 wt% of GO loading, the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the PMMA/GO nanocomposite were increased by more than 7 degrees C and the thermal conductivity of which also improved 1.8 times compared to pure PMMA.

Radiative Warming Glass for High-Latitude Cold Regions.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Department of Electronic Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, New Territories, Hong Kong SAR, 999077, China.

Traditional window glazing, with inherently adverse energy-efficient optical properties, leads to colossal energy losses. Energy-saving glass requires a customized optical design for different climate zones. Compared with the widely researched radiative cooling technology which is preferable to be used in low-altitude hot regions; conversely in high-latitude cold regions, high solar transmittance (T) and low mid-infrared thermal emissivity (ε) are the key characteristics of high-performance radiative warming window glass, while the current low-emissivity (low-e) glass is far from ideal.

Lead halide perovskites have garnered interest in light-emitting diode (LED) applications due to their strong emission and tunable properties. However, conventional synthesis methods involve energy-intensive thermal processes and hazardous organic solvents, raising environmental concerns. In this study, we report a simple and eco-friendly mechanochemical approach that produces phase-pure blue-emitting CsCuI (emission at 440 nm) and yellow-emitting CsCuI (emission at 570 nm) phosphors through polarity modulation and control of grinding duration.

College of Electronic and Optical Engineering & College of Flexible Electronics (Future Technology), State Key Laboratory of Organic Electronics and Information Displays, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210023, P.R. China.

Heat dissipation has become a critical challenge in modern electronics, driving the need for a revolution in thermal management strategies beyond traditional packaging materials, thermal interface materials, and heat sinks. Cubic boron arsenide (c-BAs) offers a promising solution, thanks to its combination of high thermal conductivity and high ambipolar mobility, making it highly suitable for applications in both electronic devices and thermal management. However, challenges remain, particularly in the large-scale synthesis of a high-quality material and the tuning of its physical properties.

Response of Differently Structured Dental Polymer-Based Composites to Increasingly Aggressive Aging Conditions.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Conservative Dentistry, University Hospital, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Goethestr. 70, D-80336 Munich, Germany.

Objective: It is hypothesized that the way nano- and micro-hybrid polymer-based composites are structured and cured impacts the way they respond to aging.

Material And Methods: A polymer-ceramic interpenetrating network composite (Vita Enamic/VE), an industrially polymerized (Brillinat CriosST/BC), and an in situ light-cured composite with discrete inorganic fillers (Admira Fusion5/AF5) were selected. Specimens (308) were either cut from CAD/CAM blocks (VE/BC) or condensed and cured in white polyoxymethylene molds (AF5) and subjected to four different aging conditions ( = 22): (a) 24 h storage in distilled water at 37 °C; (b) 24 h storage in distilled water at 37 °C followed by thermal cycling for 10,000 cycles 5/55 °C (TC); (c) TC followed by storage in a 75% ethanol-water solution; and (d) TC followed by a 3-week demineralization/remineralization cycling.

Cu/Diamond (Cu/Dia) composites are regarded as next-generation thermal dissipation materials and hold tremendous potential for use in future high-power electronic devices. The interface structure between the Cu matrix and the diamond has a significant impact on the thermophysical properties of the composite materials. In this study, Cu/Dia composite materials were fabricated using the Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) process.
