Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a major cause of death in children under 5 years old globally. With () and () being the main pathogens linked to CAP that requires hospitalization, there is an urgent need for a straightforward, cost-efficient, and highly accurate diagnostic method for immediate and early detection of CAP. In this work, benzo[1,2-;4,5-']bis([1,2,5]thiadiazole) (BBT) as π-bridge spacer with the donor unit of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PF) and the acceptor unit of dithienylbenzoselenadiazole (DBS) has been successfully copolymerized to unprecedentedly prepare novel D-π-A selenium-based polymer dots with efficient NIR electrochemiluminescence (named as Se-Pdots in this work).

Selenium-based electrodes have garnered attention for their high electrical conductivity, compatibility with carbonate electrolytes, and volumetric capacity comparable to sulfur electrodes. However, real-time application is hindered by rapid capacity deterioration from the "shuttle effect" of polyselenides and volume fluctuations. To address these challenges, a hybrid Se@ZIF-67/Mo-MXene-derived (Se@Co-NC/MoC) nanoarchitecture is developed via an economically viable in situ electrostatic self-assembly of ZIF-67 and MoC nanosheets.

Selenium (Se), the world's oldest optoelectronic material, has been widely applied in various optoelectronic devices such as commercial X-ray flat-panel detectors and photovoltaics. However, despite the rare and widely-dispersed nature of Se element, a sustainable recycling of Se and other valuable materials from spent Se-based devices has not been developed so far. Here a sustainable strategy is reported that makes use of the significantly higher vapor pressure of volatile Se compared to other functional layers to recycle all of them from end-of-life Se-based devices through a closed-space evaporation process, utilizing Se photovoltaic devices as a case study.

Transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs) are recognized as highly efficient electrocatalysts and have wide applications in the field of hydrogen production by electrolysis of water, but the real catalytic substances and catalytic processes of these catalysts are not clear. The species evolution of Mo and Se during alkaline hydrogen evolution was investigated by constructing MoSe@CoSe heterostructure. The real-time evolution of Mo and Se in MoSe@CoSe was monitored using in situ Raman spectroscopy to determine the origin of the activity.

Selenium (Se) is an appealing alternative cathode material for secondary battery systems that recently attracted research interests in the electrochemical energy storage field due to its high theoretical specific capacity and good electronic conductivity. However, despite the relevant capacity contents reported in the literature, Se-based cathodes generally show poor rate capability behavior. To circumvent this issue, we propose a series of selenium@carbon (Se@C) composite positive electrode active materials capable of delivering a four-electron redox reaction when placed in contact with an aqueous copper-ion electrolyte solution (i.
