The CDA Foundation model to fluoridate communities.

J Calif Dent Assoc

California Dental Association Foundation USA.

Published: August 2012

California's population receiving the benefits of fluoridated public water supplies has increased from 15.7 percent to 62.1 percent in the past 20 years. This growth has been achieved through a broad-based coalition of organizations and individuals, starting with the creation of the California Fluoridation Task Force in 1994 and supported by the California Fluoridation Act of 1995. This paper describes the process whereby the most recent gains have been made in San Diego and are ongoing in San Jose.

Bioelectronic face masks can easily collect biomarkers in saliva, in which free cortisol is abundant. However, conventional bioelectronic face masks involve significant challenges in terms of permeability and inhalation due to their nonpermeable film-type structure. Herein, we introduce a flexible and permeable nanomesh-based wearable biosensor designed for bioelectronic face masks that monitor cortisol levels.

Importance: Caries is the most common chronic childhood disease, with substantial health disparities.

Objective: To test whether parent-targeted oral health text (OHT) messages outperform child wellness text (CWT) messages on pediatric caries increment and oral health behaviors among underserved children attending pediatric well-child visits.

Design, Setting, And Participants: The parallel randomized clinical trial, Interactive Parent-Targeted Text Messaging in Pediatric Clinics to Reduce Caries Among Urban Children (iSmile), included participants who were recruited during pediatric medical clinic visits at 4 sites in Boston, Massachusetts, that serve low-income and racially and ethnically diverse (herein, underserved) populations.

Advanced Imaging Techniques for Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Calcification in Animal Models.

The detection and assessment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular calcification can inform risk stratification and therapies to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In this review, we provide an overview of current and emerging imaging techniques for assessing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular calcification in animal models. Traditional imaging modalities, such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), offer non-invasive approaches of visualizing atherosclerotic calcification in vivo; integration of these techniques with positron emission tomography (PET) imaging adds molecular imaging capabilities, such as detection of metabolically active microcalcifications with F-sodium fluoride.
