Introduction: Cell adhesion molecules (CAM) are required for maintaining a normal epithelial phenotype, and abnormalities in CAM expression have been related to cancer progression, including bladder urothelial carcinomas. There is only one study that correlates E-cadherin and Α-, Β- and y-catenin expression with prognosis of upper tract urothelial carcinomas. Our aim is to study the pattern of immune expression of these CAMs in urothelial carcinomas from the renal pelvis and ureter in patients who have been treated surgically. Our goal is to correlate these expression levels and characteristics with well-known prognostic parameters for disease-free survival.

Materials And Methods: We evaluated specimens from 20 patients with urothelial carcinomas of the renal pelvis and ureter who were treated with nephroureterectomy or ureterectomy between June 1997 and January 2007. CAM expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in a tissue microarray and correlated with histopathological characteristics and patient outcomes after a mean follow-up of 55 months.

Results: We observed a relationship between E-cadherin expression and disease recurrence. Disease recurrence occurred in 87.5% of patients with strong E-cadherin expression. Only 50.0% of patients with moderate expression and 0% of patients with weak or no expression of E-cadherin had disease recurrence (p = 0.014). There was also a difference in disease-free survival. Patients with strong E-cadherin expression had a mean disease-free survival rate of 49.1 months, compared to 83.9 months for patients with moderate expression (p = 0.011). Additionally, an absence of Α-catenin expression was associated with tumors that were larger than 3 cm (p = 0.003).

Conclusions: We demonstrated for the first time that immune expression of E-cadherin is related to tumor recurrence and disease-free survival rates, and the absence of Α-catenin expression is related to tumor size in upper tract urothelial carcinomas.

Introduction: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer therapy by enhancing the antitumor immune response. This case describes an 80-year-old male with synchronous multiple primary malignancies (MPMs), including lung metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), and brain metastatic urothelial carcinoma, who was treated with dual ICI therapy.

Case Presentation: The patient, with a history of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, well-differentiated neuroendocrine duodenal tumors and micronodular exogenous cirrhosis (Child-Pugh class A), presented with a non-invasive bladder carcinoma (pT1N0M0) resected endoscopically in December 2022.

Background: The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) has been reported as a quantitative biomarker for assessing the aggressiveness of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), but it has typically been used only with mean ADC values. This study aims to develop a radiomics model using ADC maps to differentiate UTUC grades by incorporating texture features and to compare its performance with that of mean ADC values.

Methods: A total of 215 patients with histopathologically confirmed UTUC were enrolled retrospectively and divided into training and test sets.

Background: The role of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in the diagnosis of renal malignancies is established and has been getting more precise and important over a period of time. Knowledge of the pathology of uncommon renal neoplasms along with radiological and clinical correlations often aids in correct diagnosis.

Aims: The present study aims to describe the cytomorphological and immunohistochemical findings in the varied spectrum of renal tumors, other than renal cell carcinomas (RCC).

Introduction: Urine cytology is a morphological diagnostic test that is, patient-friendly and easy to sample but subjective in morphological evaluation. This study aims to evaluate the effect of combining cell findings to assess urine cytology.

Materials And Methods: Thirty cell findings found in high-grade urothelial carcinoma (HGUC) were selected for morphological abnormalities, each with detailed definitions.

Introduction: Neoadjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy followed by radical surgery is the standard treatment for muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma (MIUC). The Checkmate-274 and AMBASSADOR trials have demonstrated improvements in disease-free survival (DFS) with adjuvant immunotherapy. Consequently, this meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of strategies involving checkpoint inhibitors in managing high-risk MIUC.
