Hypoglossia is a rare entity which is reported sporadically. Hypoglossia has often occurred in an association with limb anomalies and, therefore, these cases have been grouped together as hypoglossia-hypodactylia within oromandibular limb hypogenesis syndromes. The literature on this condition is reviewed, and a case of hypoglossia has also been presented. An investigative protocol to aid in the treatment planning of a patient with hypoglossia has also been suggested.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) refers to a cluster of metabolic disorders characterized by systemic chronic inflammation. Er Miao San (EMS) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine compound containing Phellodendron amurense and Atractylodis rhizome at a ratio of 1:1, proven to be effective against inflammatory diseases in clinical practice. Segmental Brainstem Myoclonus (SBM) is a rare movement disorder characterized by rhythmic contractions of muscles innervated by brainstem segments. We report a 20-year-old patient with ADCK3-related spinocerebellar ataxia type 9 (SCAR9) presenting with sudden-onset myoclonic movements of the throat, tongue, and soft palate. Brain MRI showed stable findings, including dentate nucleus hyperintensities.

We present the case of a 51-year-old man with Von Hippel-Lindau disease and a history of renal transplantation who developed a persistent, painful tongue lesion with episodes of significant swelling. Given his history of prolonged immunosuppression and elevated cancer risk, oral squamous cell carcinoma was a major concern. However, histopathological evaluation confirmed recrudescent herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection rather than malignancy.
