Coexisting glaucoma and cataract is a common eye disorder in elderly population. Recent advances in the management of patients with coexisting cataract and glaucoma offer a promising alternative in patients with uncontrolled glaucoma and a cataract and provide an individualized treatment depending upon patient's characteristics and intraocular pressure (IOP). Based on many significant studies that have been conducted in the combining cataract extraction with a glaucoma surgery in recent years, present article reviews the different surgical options on the control of their postoperative IOP level in the different stages of glaucoma and the surgical strategies for patients with combined cataract and glaucoma.
