Background And Purpose: Studies report on the reversal of electrophysiological parameters altered by atrial tachycardia after cessation of the latter. However, there is no data concerning reversal of tachycardia-induced alterations of ion currents. Reverse remodeling of atrial ion currents (I(Ca,L), I(to), I(sus)) was studied in our rabbit model of tachycardia-induced electrical remodeling.

Methods: Three groups each with four animals were built. Rapid atrial pacing (600/min) for 5 days was applied in all groups. Thereafter, different time intervals (5, 10, 20 days) were awaited before the patch clamp experiments.

Results: Similar to I(to) remodeling in our model, within 20 days after cessation of atrial tachycardia, time course of I(to) reverse remodeling was also U-shaped. In contrast, there was no significant recovery of I(Ca,L) which was initially reduced by rapid atrial pacing.

Conclusion: Relevance of a missing recovery of I(Ca,L) is likely as this current is closely linked with intracellular calcium handling.

HIF-1α mediates hypertension and vascular remodeling in sleep apnea via hippo-YAP pathway activation.

Mol Med

December 2024

Department of Otorhinolaryngology/Head and Neck, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, No.3 East Qingchun Road, Hangzhou, 310020, Zhejiang, China.

Background: Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) is associated with hypertension and vascular remodeling. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and the Hippo-YAP pathway are implicated in these processes, but their specific roles remain unclear. This study investigated the HIF-1α/Hippo-YAP pathway in SAS-related hypertension.

Apelin is an endogenous ligand for the Apelin receptor and is a critical protective effector in myocardial infarction (MI). Nevertheless, these protective mechanisms are not fully understood. Ferroptosis is the major driving factor of MI.

The Purpose: Evaluation of the short-term and long-term results of a phased correction of the tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) with stenting of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) in comparison with a one-stage total correction (TC) of the defect.

Materials And Methods: Two groups of patients with classical ToF were formed. Group 1 (n = 25; median age = 72 days) was initially represented by children with ToF with a more severe clinical status (median weight = 3.

Severe obesity is closely associated with an increased risk of comorbidities and alterations in cardiac structure and function. The primary objective of this study was to investigate cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and ventricular remodeling in individuals from an obese population eligible for bariatric surgery. The secondary objective was to evaluate changes in anthropometric, clinical laboratory, and echocardiographic measurements 12 weeks after surgery compared to baseline values.
