Marine phytoplankton was studied in January and July 2002 along of four transects: 32°30'N, 29°N, 24°30'N and 24°N. A total of 142 taxa were recorded in this area. The maximal specific richness, both in summer and in winter, was registered around Dakhla (24°N). The global spatiotemporal variability of species richness and specific diversity showed that the most structured and species-rich populations are situated in the coastal areas. The vertical variation of the two parameters showed homogeneity between depth levels. The maximal phytoplanktonic densities are recorded in the southern transects due to the permanent upwelling activity in the southern Atlantic coast. The bathymetric distribution of densities was more heterogeneous during summer, characterized by a high intensity of upwelling. The species Thalassionema nitzschioides, Asterionellopsis glacialis, Melosira, Chaetoceros and Leptocylindrus minimus are indicators of upwelling.

The destruction and decline of prairie habitats due to landscape repurposing have profoundly impacted the diversity of plant, animal, and insect life. In the Central United States, the reconstruction of prairie habitats from farmland is a widely applied strategy to raise diversity and recreate a healthy, complex ecosystem. In Central Missouri, we examine the consequences of reconstruction efforts on the prevalence of zoonotic diseases and their associated pathogens by performing tick-flagging at two prairie sites.

This study examines how southern wintering areas may contribute to organochlorine (OCs) loads in arctic seabirds during breeding. Light-sensitive geolocators (GLS loggers) were deployed on Arctic skuas (Stercorarius parasiticus) in one high arctic and two subarctic colonies. Hexcahlorobenzene (HCB), Chlordanes, Mirex, p, p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloro- ethylene (p, p'-DDE), and Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in the blood of breeding adults at the nest (58 individuals, a total of 128 samples) in northern Norway and Svalbard between 2009 and 2015.

Introduction: Copepods of the genus Colobomatus Hesse, 1873 are parasites associated with subcutaneous spaces of marine fish. To date, around 76 species of the genus have been described in marine ecosystems, but few species have been recorded in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Methods: One hundred and eight specimens of Co.

Background: We aimed to examine the epidemiology of concussions within high school (HS) boys' and girls' sports, and to assess the incidence of concussion within HS sports during the timespan inclusive of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: We analyzed data captured within High School Reporting Information Online (HS RIO) during 2018/19-2022/23. Injury counts, rates (enumerated per 10,000 athlete-exposures (AEs)), and proportions were used to describe injury characteristics by sport, event type, injury mechanism, and injury history.

A juvenile spinner shark, Carcharhinus brevipinna, was captured and released in the coastal waters of Rhode Island, USA, where range delineations based on historic records of spinner sharks and the species' congener, the blacktip shark, Carcharhinus limbatus, are plagued by misidentification. The shark in question was within the size range of neonates for C. brevipinna and bore a partially healed umbilical wound.
