FtsZ is a widely distributed major cytoskeletal protein involved in the archaea and bacteria cell division. It is the most critical component in the division machinery and similar to tubulin in structure and function. Four major roles of FtsZ have been characterized: cell elongation, GTPase, cell division, and bacterial cytoskeleton. FtsZ subunits can be assembled into protofilaments. Mycobacteria consist of a large family of medical and environmental important bacteria, such as M. leprae, M. tuberculosis, the pathogen of leprosy, and tuberculosis. Structure, function, and regulation of mycobacteria FtsZ are summarized here, together with the implication of FtsZ as potential novel drug target for anti-tuberculosis therapeutics.

Most Gram-negative bacteria synthesize a plethora of cell surface polysaccharides that play key roles in immune evasion, cell envelope structural integrity and host-pathogen interactions. In the predominant polysaccharide Wzx/Wzy-dependent pathway, synthesis is divided between the cytoplasmic and periplasmic faces of the membrane. Initially, an oligosaccharide composed of 3-8 sugars is synthesized on a membrane-embedded lipid carrier, undecaprenyl pyrophosphate, within the cytoplasmic face of the membrane.

Self-compassion has been defined as being open to one's suffering, not avoiding or disconnecting from it, coupled with the kind and caring motivation to alleviate one's suffering. There is increasing evidence that self-compassion might function as a buffer against the negative mental health effects of experiencing work-stressors. However, while this moderating role of self-compassion has been demonstrated when measures of subjective stress are used, different studies that use measures of more objective potential stressors failed to demonstrate a moderating role of self-compassion.

Various glassy hydrogels are developed by forming dense physical associations within the matrices, which exhibit forced elastic deformation and possess high stiffness, strength, and toughness. Here, the viscoplastic behaviors of the glassy hydrogel of poly(methacrylamide--methacrylic acid) are investigated by stress relaxation and creep measurements. We found that the characteristic time of stress relaxation of the glassy gel is much smaller than that of amorphous polymers.
