Unlabelled: The diagnosis and treatment of Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) are the subjects of this two-part review, which aims to provide current and thorough knowledge of these topics. The first portion of the study, previously published, investigated the epidemiology, etiology, clinicopathological aspects, differential diagnosis, prognostic factors, and impact on WM-specific groups. Specifically, this second section examines both the standard consolidated method and the new therapeutic strategy to handle the complex topic of the treatment of WM.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system. The manifestation of MS is related to steroid changes during the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. As data focusing on the effect of anti-MS drug treatment on steroidome are scarce, we evaluated steroidomic changes (79 steroids) in 61 female MS patients of reproductive age 39 (29, 47) years (median with quartiles) after treatment with anti-MS drugs on the GC-MS/MS platform and immunoassays (cortisol and estradiol).

Liver transplantation is the only effective method for end-stage liver disease; however, liver ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) seriously affects donor liver function after liver transplantation. IRI is a pathophysiological process in which organ damage is aggravated after the blood flow and oxygen supply of ischemic organ tissues are restored. It combines the two stages of hypoxic cell stress triggered by ischemia and inflammation-mediated reperfusion injury.

The SARS-CoV2 pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges between temporary or permanent discontinuation of immunosuppressive treatment to protect patients, or disease control prioritization by not interrupting treatment. Maintenance treatment with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) improves progression-free survival (PFS) in follicular lymphoma (FL), but also impairs anti-SARS-CoV2 immune response. This challenge has been addressed in Italy by temporary, definitive or no discontinuation of anti-CD20 treatment.

Background: Cyclophosphamide (CYC) is an inactive alkylating agent that transforms the alkyl radicals into other molecules and is used in combination with systemic corticosteroids in the treatment of many childhood rheumatic diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV). In recent years, rituximab (RTX), a B-cell-targeting anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, has emerged as a new alternative treatment modality over CYC for induction therapy of childhood-onset rheumatic diseases. Clinicians adopt different practices for using CYC particularly in relation to indications, posology, pre-treatment laboratory work-up, post-treatment follow-up, and screening pre- and post-treatment vaccination status.
