This paper describes a procedure for direct conversion of aldehydes to nitriles using O-(diphenylphosphinyl)hydroxylamine (DPPH). Aldehydes are smoothly transformed to their corresponding nitriles by heating with DPPH in toluene. The reaction can be accomplished in the presence of alcohol, ketone, ester, or amine functionality.
The chemoselective synthesis of trisubstituted alkenyl halides (Cl, Br, F, I) starting from ketones and aldehydes and lithium halocarbenoids is reported. Upon forming the corresponding tetrahedral intermediate adduct, followed by the addition of thionyl chloride, a selective E2-type elimination is triggered, furnishing the targeted motifs. The transformation takes place under full chemocontrol: various sensitive functionalities ( ester, nitrile, nitro, or halogen groups) can be placed on the starting materials, thus documenting a wide reaction scope, as well as the application of the technique to biologically active substances.

Nitriles are an abundant class of compounds that are widely used as versatile feedstocks to produce various chemicals including pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals as well as materials. Here we report Ni-catalyzed reductive hydrolysis of nitriles to alcohols in the presence of molecular hydrogen. This conversion likely occurs in a domino reaction sequence that first involves the hydrogenation of nitrile to primary imine, then the hydrolysis of imine, and subsequent deamination to the aldehyde, which is finally hydrogenated to the desired alcohol.

Chromone-3-carbonitrile has been extensively studied in a panel of high-value transformations. However, existing protocols for the synthesis of this scaffold are often constrained by the structure of the starting materials and harsh conditions. To address these issues, we present a novel strategy that HFIP (hexafluoroisopropanol)-driven strategy, enables chromone-3-carbonitriles synthesis without undesirable side reactions.

Although pollution during crude oil production has been paid attention, there is lack of studies on organic pollutants generated/emitted from oil-production wastewater (OPW) treatment processes, especially advanced oxidation process.
