A method for qualitative analysis of constituents in Panax notoginseng by UPLC-LTQ-Orbitrap mass spectrometry was established. Based on the high-resolution mass information, MS/MS fragmentation behaviors and chemical components from literatures, 43 compounds were identified or tentatively characterized. New type saponin aglycone, combined with malonyl-substituted and acetyl-substituted saponins were discovered and plausibly identified in this study. This work could be helpful for the quality control and further phytochemical studies of Panax notoginseng, and provided a good example for the analysis of chemical constituents in traditional Chinese medicine.

Saponins are responsible for the clinical effects of leaves, which are traditionally produced as the single herb resource of 'Qiye Shenan Pian' in Chinese patent medicine. In this study, the metabolic characteristics of PNLSs were explored in rat feces. PNLSs as well as their metabolites were analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS).

Background: The treatment options to delay the progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN), a key contributor to chronic kidney disease (CKD), are urgently needed. Previous studies reported that traditional Chinese medicine Panax notoginseng (PNG) exerted beneficial effects on DN. However, the renoprotective effects of Notoginsenoside R2 (NR2), an active component of PNG, on DN have not been investigated.

DNA methylation plays a crucial role in regulating fruit ripening and seed development. It remains unknown about the dynamic characteristics of DNA methylation and its regulation mechanisms in morpho-physiological dormancy (MPD)-typed seeds with recalcitrant characteristics. The Panax notoginseng seeds are defined by the MPD and are characterized by a strong sensitivity to dehydration during the after-ripening process.
