Feasibility study on cross-linked biopolymeric concrete encapsulating selenium glass wastes.

Feasibility study was conducted to encapsulate the selenium (Se) contained in glass waste, using the biopolymer-modified concrete. Biopolymer has unique characteristics to provide the chemical sites to metals or toxic compounds through the three-dimensional cross-linked structure. Very minute amount of biopolymer enhanced the characteristics of cementitious material. The resulting biopolymeric composite with selenium glass waste showed 20% higher compressive strength than ordinary concrete and the lower leaching concentration than the equipment detection limit. For a qualitative measurement, X-ray diffraction (XRD; X-ray powder diffractogram) was used to characterize the biopolymeric concrete. The optimum waste content percentage with appropriate biopolymer concrete mixture ratio was identified for its possible commercial use.

Background: Smoking rates in the UK have declined steadily over the past decades, masking considerable inequalities, as little change has been observed among people with a mental health condition. This trial sought to assess the feasibility and acceptability of supplying an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) starter kit for smoking cessation as an adjunct to usual care for smoking cessation, to smokers with a mental health condition treated in the community, to inform a future effectiveness trial.

Background: 2022 survey data showed 29% of Veterans utilized Veterans Affairs (VA) paid health care at a non-VA facility, 6% higher than in 2021. Despite an increase in the number of Veterans accessing care in the community via the MISSION Act Community Care Program (CCP), there is limited information on the quality of mental health care delivered to Veterans in these settings. Further, Veterans report barriers to quality care, including poor communication between CCP and VA providers, which can result in negative patient outcomes.
