Objective: To investigate the absorption and transport mechanism of magnolol in Caco-2 cell model.
Methods: A human intestinal epithelial cell model Caco-2 cell in vitro cultured was applied to study the absorption and transport of magnolol, the effects of time, donor concentration, P-gp inhibitor verapamil, pH and temperature on the absorption and transport of magnolol were investigated. The determination of magnolol was performed by high performance liquid chromatography, then the values of apparent permeability coefficient (P app ) and P ratio Basolateral-to-Apical (BL-to-AP)/Apical-to-Basolateral (AP-to-BL) were calculated.
Results: In Caco-2 cell model, comparing the amounts of transport of AP-to-BL and BL-to-AP, the latter was larger. At the same donor concentration, either the amounts of transport of AP-to-BL or BL-to-AP increased with increase in donor concentration and incubation time. Verapamil could significantly improve the amounts of transport of AP-to-BL. The transport of AP-to-BL and BL-to-AP depended on temperature, and there was no significant effect of pH on the transport of AP-to-BL.
Conclusion: Magnolol could be transported through the intestinal mucosa via a passive diffusion mechanism primarily, coexisting with a carrier-mediated transport, at the same time, the efflux mechanism could be involved.

Osmoregulation is essential for the survival of aquatic organisms, particularly teleost fish facing osmotic challenges in environments characterized by variable salinity. While the gills are known for ion exchange, the intestine's role in water and salt absorption is gaining attention. Here, we investigated the adaptive responses of the intestine to salinity stress in guppies (), observing significant morphological and transcriptomic alterations.

Aging is intricately linked to various diseases including cancers, neurodegenerative disorders, and metabolic irregularities. Copper (Cu) overexposure has been found to be linked to many diseases during aging, particularly neurodegenerative diseases. Meanwhile, as an essential element, Cu has been implicated in key processes associated with aging, raising questions about its role in age-related health issues.

Background: Magnesium (Mg) is essential for plant growth and development and plays critical roles in physiological and biochemical processes. Mg deficiency adversely affects growth of plants by limiting shoot and root development, disturbing the structure and membranes of the grana, reducing photosynthesis efficiency, and lowering net CO assimilation. The MGT (Magnesium transporter) family is responsible for the absorption and transportation of magnesium in plants.

Background: Skeletal muscle atrophy is a clinical concern in diabetic nephropathy, and without effective therapeutic approaches. Massive evidence has demonstrated that dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor can relieve diabetic nephropathy by inhibiting glucose re-absorption or podocyte pyroptosis. Nevertheless, whether dapagliflozin could treat skeletal muscle atrophy or the potential protection mechanism in diabetic nephropathy mice is unclear.

Long-range exciton transport is crucial for optoelectronic devices based on organic semiconductors, but the method for increasing and regulating the exciton transport rate in organic semiconductors is still underexplored. Here we have achieved rapid-transporting excitons in organic crystals assembled of difluoroboron β-diketonate (BCZ) and found that the exciton transport rate of BCZ crystals can be regulated by the molecular packing form. Using transient absorption microscopy, we find that the BCZ-Y crystal in which BCZ molecules experience uniform head-to-tail antiparallel molecular packing has anisotropic long-range exciton transport.
