Chemical investigation of the glandular trichome exudate from Ceratotheca triloba (Pedaliaceae) led to the identification of nine 1-O-acetyl-2-O-[(R)-3-acetyloxy-fatty acyl]-3-O-malonylglycerols. Among these, 1-O-acetyl-2-O-[(R)-3-acetyloxyicosanoyl]-3-O-malonylglycerol (7) was the most abundant constituent (41%), followed by 1-O-acetyl-2-O-[(R)-(3-acetyloxyoctadecanoyl)-3-O-malonylglycerol (2; 21%). Compounds having iso- and anteiso-type structures in the 3-acetyloxy-fatty acyl groups in the fatty acyl moiety were also characterized as minor constituents. This is the first report of the isolation of malonylated glycerolipids as natural products.

Sweet sorghum () is one of the most important cereal crops in the world with colorful seeds. To study the diversity and cultivar-specificity of phytochemicals in sweet sorghum seeds, widely targeted metabolomics was used to analyze the metabolic profiles of the white, red, and purple seeds from three sweet sorghum cultivars Z6, Z27, and HC4. We identified 651 metabolites that were divided into 24 categories, including fatty acids, glycerolipids, flavonoids, benzoic acid derivatives, anthocyanins, and nucleotides and its derivatives.

Significant advances have been made in deciphering the mechanisms underlying fuel-stimulated insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells. The contribution of the triggering/ATP-sensitive potassium (K)-dependent Ca signalling and K-independent amplification pathways, that include anaplerosis and lipid signalling of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS), are well established. A proposed model included a key role for a metabolic partitioning 'switch', the acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC)/malonyl-CoA/carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 (CPT-1) axis, in beta cell glucose and fatty acid signalling for insulin secretion.

AMPK regulates many metabolic pathways including fatty acid and glucose metabolism, both of which are closely associated with insulin secretion in pancreatic β-cells. Insulin secretion is regulated by metabolic coupling factors such as ATP/ADP ratio and other metabolites generated by the metabolism of nutrients such as glucose, fatty acid and amino acids. However, the connection between AMPK activation and insulin secretion in β-cells has not yet been fully elucidated at a metabolic level.
