According to the pigment theory of matching, metameric matches result from the equation of the rates of photoisomerizations for each of the three classes of cone pigments excited by the two matched fields. If true, matches are radiance-invariant and additive. Tests of the theory in this paper show small but ubiquitous failures in radiance-invariance due to systematic rather than random errors in matching. A choice between two possible explanations for these systematic errors favors the view that in subjects who deliberately or intuitively search for the middle of the matching range, the errors are due to an asymmetry in the Weber fraction for color (Trezona) at low (but not high) levels of retinal illuminance.

Objective: The patterning cascade model of crown morphogenesis has been studied extensively in a variety of organisms to elucidate the evolutionary history surrounding postcanine tooth form. The current research is the first to use a large modern human sample to examine whether the crown configuration of lower deciduous and permanent molars aligns with expectations derived from the model. This study has two main goals: 1) to determine if metameric and antimeric pairs significantly differ in size, accessory trait expression, and relative intercusp spacing, and 2) assess whether the relative distance among early-forming cusps accounts for observed variation in accessory cusp expression.

Visual crowding refers to the phenomenon where a target object that is easily identifiable in isolation becomes difficult to recognize when surrounded by other stimuli (distractors). Many psychophysical studies have investigated this phenomenon and proposed alternative models for the underlying mechanisms. The color matching possibilities between (reference) phosphor-converted LEDs (pc-LEDs) and replacement metameric LEDs made by color mixing technology (cm-LEDs) were evaluated in the classical 20th century CIE 1976 color space developed for perpendicular viewing (based on a 2° colorimetric observer) and in the latest CIE 2015 cone fundamental color space developed for wide field of view observers (10° colorimetric observer). For each given pc-LED 10 different sets of cm-LEDs were designed and evaluated for color consistency in 2°and 10° color spaces. There were 10 different B-color LEDs considered along with constant RGA LEDs.
