Objectives: Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) is an acute neuropsychiatric disorder caused by thiamine deficiency. The classical triad of symptoms for WE include mental status changes, ataxia, and ophthalmoplegia. In contrast, more uncommon symptoms include hallucinations.

Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, analyzing studies comparing GA and RA in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. Studies encompassed various designs, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and meta-analyses.

Electroencephalography (EEG) provides a promising approach for predicting the risk of POD. Backgrounds: The cerebral oximetry index (CO) uses near-infrared spectroscopy to estimate cerebral autoregulation during cardiac surgery. However, the relationship between intraoperative loss of cerebral autoregulation and postoperative delirium or stroke remains unclear in patients recovering from carotid endarterectomy (CEA).
Methods: Our prospective observational cohort study enrolled patients scheduled for CEA.
There is increasing awareness of the deleterious effects of ambient pollution. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently advocated new safe limits of annual exposure for the three pre-dominant pollutants: fine particulate matter (PM2.5), coarse particulate matter (PM10) and nitrogen dioxide; namely 5μg/m3, 15μg/m3 and 10gμ/m3 respectively.
