Maladaptive changes in gene expression at transcriptional level in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) after nerve injury are critical for neuropathic pain genesis. Emerging evidence reveals the important role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in regulating gene transcription. Recent studies also have showed the contribution of ncRNAs to neuropathic pain.

Multilineage-differentiating stress-enduring (Muse) cells are non-tumorigenic pluripotent- like stem cells that can migrate to damaged sites and contribute to tissue repair. Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH), which mimics vascular dementia, causes hippocampal neuronal degeneration and white matter (WM) damage, which lead to cognitive dysfunction. Currently, there are no effective treatments for it.

Semen quality has an important impact on the reproductive performance of ganders, and the quantity and quality of spermatozoa in semen are the determinants of semen quality. In our practical work, a small number of azoospermic ganders were observed in adult goose breeding populations, but the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain unknown. In the present study, we firstly compared the morphological and histological differences in the testes of ganders from normozoospermic group (NG) and azoospermic group (AG), and then analyzed the testicular expression patterns of circRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs between the two groups by using whole-transcriptome sequencing technology.

From Waste to Innovation: A Circular Economy Approach for Tissue Engineering by Transforming Human Bone Waste into Novel Collagen Membranes.

Biomolecules

January 2025

Department of Surgery and Specialties, Central University Hospital of Asturias, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Oviedo, 33011 Oviedo, Spain.

The aim of the circular economy is to treat waste as a valuable raw material, reintegrating it into the industrial economy and extending the lifecycle of subsequent products. Efforts to reduce the production of hard-to-recycle waste are becoming increasingly important to manufacturers, not only of consumer goods but also of specialized items that are difficult to manufacture, such as medical supplies, which have now become a priority for the European Union. The purpose of the study is to manufacture a novel human-purified type I collagen membrane from bone remnants typically discarded during the processing of cortico-cancellous bones in tissue banks and to evaluate its mechanical properties and effectiveness in regenerating bone-critical mandibular defects in rabbits.

Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is known for its high incidence, disability, and mortality, and there is an urgent need to investigate the pathophysiological mechanisms and develop novel treatment strategies.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the mechanisms of the novel circMap2k1/miR-135b-5p/Pidd1 axis in the treatment of IS progression with fluoxetine.

Methods: The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model was done in adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and followed by fluoxetine treatment and the injection of adeno-associated virus (AAV)-sh-ctr and AAV-sh-circMap2k1 into the bilateral hippocampal tissues of rats.
