Background: Genetic background and environmental factors play an interactive role in the development of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), and the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system was noted as an important genetic factor in ALL.

Material And Methods: Due to the high diversity of HLA alleles, our present study assessed the possibility of an association of HLA molecules in ALL patients living in Jiangsu Province, Eastern China. HLAA, -B, and -DRB1 allele distributions in 156 ALL patients (aged 3-54 years) were analyzed and compared with unrelated healthy hematopoietic stem cell donors from the same ethnic and geographic background.

Results: No significance was found at HLA-A, -B loci between the ALL group and the control group. However, a significant difference was discovered at HLA-DRB1*14 (8.65% in the ALL group versus 4.8% in the control group, pC < 0.05), with an odds ratio of 1.87 (95% confidence interval 1.26- 2.80).

Conclusion: HLA-DRB1*14 may be associated with susceptibility to ALL acquisition among the Jiangsu Han population.

Melanoma is an immunogenic tumor. The melanoma tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) is made up of a heterogenous mix of both immune and non-immune cells as well as a multitude of signaling molecules. The interactions between tumor cells, immune cells and signaling molecules affect tumor progression and therapeutic responses.

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is an immunomodulatory molecule that may play an immunosuppressive role in nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC), specifically basal cell carcinoma (BCC). We analyzed the role of IL10 promoter variants in genetic determinants of BCC susceptibility and their association with IL10 mRNA and IL-10 serum levels. Three promoter variants (- 1082 A > G, - 819 T > C, and - 592 A > C) were examined in 250 BCC patients and 250 reference group (RG) individuals.

A wealth of research focused on African American populations has connected rs2814778-CC ("Duffy-null") to decreased neutrophil (neutropenia) and leukocyte counts (leukopenia). While it has been proposed that this variant is benign, prior studies have shown that the misinterpretation of Duffy-null associated neutropenia and leukopenia can lead to unnecessary bone marrow biopsies, inequities in cytotoxic and chemotherapeutic treatment courses, under-enrollment in clinical trials, and other disparities. To investigate the phenotypic correlates of Duffy-null status, we conducted a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) across more than 1,400 clinical conditions in All of Us, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Biobank, and the Million Veteran Program.

Atypical Patients With Severe Fever With Thrombocytopenia Syndrome.

State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity, Academy of Military Medical Science, Beijing, China.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging tick-borne disease with a high fatality rate. The clinical diagnosis criteria mainly rely on white blood cell (WBC) and platelet (PLT), which, however, are of limited usage in identifying atypical SFTS. A multicenter study was performed in two hospitals from 2011 to 2023.

Objectives: To investigate the expression of soluble factor-related apoptosis ligand (sFasL) in peripheral blood and microRNA-147b (miR-147b) in monocytes in children with sepsis and their value in assessing prognosis.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 124 children with sepsis (sepsis group), 60 children with common infections (infection group), and 60 healthy children undergoing physical examinations (healthy control group). The independent risk factors for poor prognosis in children with sepsis were analyzed, and the value of serum sFasL and monocyte miR-147b in predicting poor prognosis in children with sepsis was assessed.
