The generation and fabrication of nanoscopic structures are of critical technological importance for future implementations in areas such as nanodevices and nanotechnology, biosensing, bioimaging, cancer targeting, and drug delivery. Applications of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in biological fields have been impeded by the incapability of their visualization using conventional methods. Therefore, fluorescence labeling of CNTs with various probes under physiological conditions has become a significant issue for their utilization in biological processes. Herein, we demonstrate a facile and additional fluorophore-free approach for cancer cell-imaging and diagnosis by combining multiwalled CNTs with a well-known conjugated polymer, namely, poly(p-phenylene) (PP). In this approach, PP decorated with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) was noncovalently (π-π stacking) linked to acid-treated CNTs. The obtained water self-dispersible, stable, and biocompatible f-CNT/PP-g-PEG conjugates were then bioconjugated to estrogen-specific antibody (anti-ER) via -COOH functionalities present on the side-walls of CNTs. The resulting conjugates were used as an efficient fluorescent probe for targeted imaging of estrogen receptor overexpressed cancer cells, such as MCF-7. In vitro studies and fluorescence microscopy data show that these conjugates can specifically bind to MCF-7 cells with high efficiency. The represented results imply that CNT-based materials could easily be fabricated by the described approach and used as an efficient "fluorescent probe" for targeting and imaging, thereby providing many new possibilities for various applications in biomedical sensing and diagnosis.

Atorvastatin (ATV) is a first-line drug for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. This drug presents biopharmaceutical problems, partly due to its low solubility and dissolution rate. In this work, nanocrystals of ATV stabilized with Tween 80® were designed by wet milling.

Films with micro/nanostructures that show high wicking performance are promising in water desalination, atmospheric water harvesting, and thermal energy management systems. Here, we use a facile bubble-induced self-assembly method to directly generate films with a nanoengineered crack-like surface on the substrate during bubble growth when self-dispersible graphene quantum dot (GQD) nanofluid is used as the working medium. The crack-like micro/nanostructure, which is generated due to the thermal stress, enables the GQD film to not only have superior capillary wicking performance but also provide many additional nucleation sites.

This work first synthesized a series of linear polyesters by step-growth polycondensation, then an amino-terminated hydrophilic polyether was grafted to the polyester as side-chains through aza-Michael addition to prepare a self-dispersible, non-ionic waterborne comb-like polyester (NWCPE). In contrast to traditional functionalization methods that usually require harsh reaction conditions and complex catalysts, the aza-Michael addition proceeds efficiently at room temperature without a catalyst. In this facile and mild way, the NWCPE samples with number-average molecular weight () of about 8000 g mol were obtained.

Benzimidazole methylcarbamate anthelmintics, including fenbendazole (FBZ), have only limited water solubility and small differences in drug solubility may have a major influence on their absorption, pharmacokinetic behavior and anthelmintic efficacy. To improve FBZ water solubility and dissolution rate, novel self-dispersible nanocrystals (SDNCs) of FBZ were recently described. In this work, the pharmacokinetic behavior of the SDNCs of FBZ and Poloxamer 188 was compared against a physical mixture (PM) of its components.

Valero-fenbendazole (VAL-FBZ) is a novel hybrid compound with in vitro anthelmintic activity, designed and synthesized to address the global problem of resistance to anthelmintic compounds. This new molecule derives from fenbendazole (FBZ), a well-known commercially available benzimidazole used in veterinary medicine despite its poor water solubility. In this work, we report for the first time a strategy to solve the solubility problems of FBZ and VAL-FBZ by means of self-dispersible nanocrystals (SDNC).
