We detected a Caucasoid HLA-B allele, HLA-B*44:55, in a potential Taiwanese/Chinese bone marrow hematopoietic stem cell donor during our routine HLA SBT (sequence-based typing) practice. The sequence of B*44:55 varies with B*44:02:01:01 with one nucleotide in exon 2 at position 97 (T->C), while it differs from B*44:03:01 with one nucleotide in exon 2 at position 97 (T->C) and three nucleotides in exon 3 at residues 538-540 (CTG->GAC). The nucleotide replacements caused one amino acid variation with B*44:02:01:01 at residue 9 (Y->H) and two amino acid variations with B*44:03:01 at residue 9 (Y->H) and residue 156 (L->D). The formation of B*44:55 is probably the result of a nucleotide substitution involving B*44:02:01:01 at position 97 (T->C). The Taiwanese/Chinese donor with B*44:55 claims having no kinship with Caucasian. Our speculations on the origin of the Taiwanese/Chinese B*44:55 will be presented.

Quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) systems are inherently unfavorable for superconductivity due to electronic instabilities and significant quantum fluctuations. This has led to a half-century-long pursuit of strong and robust Q1D superconductors. Herein, we propose an effective multiorbital chain approach that utilizes the interorbital self-doping to not only suppress the instability but also to position the Fermi level near the band edges.

In unconventional superconductors, coupled charge and lattice degrees of freedom can manifest in ordered phases of matter that are intertwined. In the cuprate family, fluctuating short-range charge correlations can coalesce into a longer-range charge density wave (CDW) order which is thought to intertwine with superconductivity, yet the nature of the interaction is still poorly understood. Here, by measuring subtle lattice fluctuations in underdoped YBaCuO on quasi-static timescales (thousands of seconds) through X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy, we report sensitivity to both superconductivity and CDW.

To deepen our understanding of long-chain fatty acid carbon chain elongation and desaturation in ducks, this study systematically analyzed the transcriptional activities of key gene promoters, including ELOVLs, FADSs, and SCDs. Predictive modeling coupled with statistical analysis revealed a prevalence of binding motifs for transcription factors, particularly those associated with Sp1, NF-1, and C/EBPalpha. Moreover, variation analysis of resequencing data from both wild and domestic ducks, specifically mallards and Pekin ducks, informed targeted mutagenesis within the core promoter regions of ELOVL2, ELOVL5, and ELOVL6.
