In order to investigate the fission process in more detail, and to compare with the measurement of cumulative fission yields, the fission cross section of the (232)Th(n,x)(89)Rb reaction induced by 14 MeV neutron was measured using the activation technique. In our measurement the neutron flux was determined using the monitor (27)Al(n,α)(24)Na reaction, and the neutron energies were measured by the method of cross-section ratios of (90)Zr(n,2n)(89)Zr to (93)Nb(n,2n)(92m)Nb reactions. The cross sections were deduced as 14.0±0.9 mb at E(n)=14.7±0.3 MeV and 13.2±1.0 mb at E(n)=14.1±0.3 MeV.

Dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) is a mitochondrial fission protein and a viable target for cardioprotection against myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury. Here, we reported a novel Drp1 inhibitor (DRP1i1), delivered using a cardiac-targeted nanoparticle drug delivery system, as a more effective approach for achieving acute cardioprotection. DRP1i1 was encapsulated in cubosome nanoparticles with conjugated cardiac-homing peptides (NanoDRP1i1) and the encapsulation efficiency was 99.

Short-term unloading experienced following injury or hospitalisation induces muscle atrophy and weakness. The effects of exercise following unloading have been scarcely investigated. We investigated the functional and molecular adaptations to a resistance training (RT) programme following short-term unloading.

The mammalian Apolipoprotein-L families (APOLs) contain several isoforms of membrane-interacting proteins, some of which are involved in the control of membrane dynamics (traffic, fission and fusion). Specifically, human APOL1 and APOL3 appear to control membrane remodeling linked to pathogen infection. Through its association with Non-Muscular Myosin-2A (NM2A), APOL1 controls Golgi-derived trafficking of vesicles carrying the lipid scramblase Autophagy-9A (ATG9A).

Carbon black nanoparticles (CBNPs) are ubiquitous in our daily ambient environment, either resulting from tobacco combustion or constituting the core of PM. Despite the potential risk of trafficking CBNPs to the fetus, the underlying toxicity of nano-sized carbon black particles in the placenta remains unambiguous. Pregnant C57BL/6 mice received intratracheal instillation of 30 nm or 120 nm CBNPs.

Activated intramolecular singlet fission is known to occur in the conjugated polymer polythienylene-vinylene (P3TV). Instead, efficient intersystem crossing has been observed in a short 3-alkyl(thienylene-vinylene) dimer. Here, we investigate a series of oligomers covering the conjugation length gap between the dimer and polymer.
