Regulation of dendritic branching by Cdc42 GAPs. | LitMetric

Nerve cells form elaborate, highly branched dendritic trees that are optimized for the receipt of synaptic signals. Recent work published in this issue of Genes & Development by Rosario and colleagues (pp. 1743-1757) shows that a Cdc42-specific GTPase-activating protein (NOMA-GAP) regulates the branching of dendrites by neurons in the top layers of the mouse cortex. The results raise interesting questions regarding the specification of arbors in different cortical layers and the mechanisms of dendrite branching.

The continuous rupture and rebuilding of unstable solid electrolyte interphase layer during cycling would block Na+ diffusion and induce Na dendrite formation, ultimately limiting the practical application of high-energy-density sodium metal batteries. Herein, a hybrid SEI layer containing Li-species is dexterously constructed on the surface of sodium metal anode. Li-containing inorganic components (Li3N, LiF and Li2CO3) are introduced to stabilize the Na/electrolyte interface and enhance the mechanical and diffusion kinetic properties of the SEI layer, which can reduce the side reactions and gas generation, regulate Na+ flux during cycling and promote rapid Na+ migration for uniform dendrite-free Na deposition.

Fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4), a key regulator of lipid metabolism and inflammation, has been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study investigated the effects of FABP4 inhibition during gestation and lactation on offspring neurodevelopment using the selective FABP4 inhibitor BMS309403. Female mice received BMS309403 (15 mg/kg) via oral gavage from two weeks before mating to postnatal day 28 (P28).

Previous studies have suggested a comorbidity between autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) and urticaria. However, the causal effects between AITD and urticaria remain unclear. This study employed genome-wide association study (GWAS) data to analyze the associations between AITD and urticaria through bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR), meanwhile, examined the role of 731 immune traits as mediators between the two diseases through mediation analysis.
