There have been few reports describing intermediate- to long-term results after hybrid total hip arthroplasty in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We followed up 52 hips in 44 patients aged 5 men and 39 women, with a mean of 11.5 years (range, 5-23.5 years). Revisions had been performed in 6 hips in 6 patients: 1 both acetabular and femoral components for infection, 1 acetabular component for aseptic loosening, 3 acetabular components for recurrent dislocation, and 1 acetabular component for dislodgement of the polyethylene liner from the metal shell. None of other acetabular or femoral components were revised or found to be loose at the final follow-up. Although postoperative dislocation remains a concern, hybrid total hip arthroplasty had an acceptable result in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Abelmoschus manihot flower (AMF), commonly cultivated in Southern China, is homology of medicine and food. In this study, microscopic observation revealed the microstructure of AMF, including upper epidermal cells and nonglandular hairs that play roles in defense and water management. Physicochemical analyses indicated that AMF powder exhibits weak acidity and low moisture content, suggesting its stability.

A Novel Dual Cross-linking Reagent for Dentin Bonding Interface Stability.

J Dent Res

December 2024

State Key Lab of Supramolecular Structure and Materials, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, Changchun, China.

The cross-linking reagent has been proposed as a means of modifying dentin collagen, inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase activities, and enhancing bond durability during dentin bonding procedures. This study aimed to synthesize an operation-friendly dual cross-linking reagent-3-(4-formyphenoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (FPA)-to assess its ability to cross-link dentin collagen and reduce enzymatic activity at the bonding interface. Cytotoxicity was evaluated by a cell counting kit-8 test and calcein AM/propidium iodide assay.

Electronic address:

Objective: This study aimed to develop 3 models based on computed tomography (CT) images of patients with craniofacial fibrous dysplasia (CFD): a radiomics model (Model Rad), a deep learning (DL) model (Model DL), and a hybrid radiomics and DL model (Model Rad+DL), and evaluate the ability of these models to distinguish between adolescents with active lesion progression and adults with stable lesion progression.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed preoperative CT scans from 148 CFD patients treated at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital. The images were processed using 3D-Slicer software to segment and extract regions of interest for radiomics and DL analysis.

A Case Report Describing the Surgical Removal of Venous and Intracardiac Cement Leakage after Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in a Hybrid Operating Room.

Ann Ital Chir

December 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS, 20138 Milan, Italy; Department of Biomedical, Surgical, and Dental Sciences, University of Milan, 20122 Milan, Italy.

Aim: Percutaneous vertebroplasty is generally considered a safe procedure, however, cases of cardioembolism and cardiac perforation have been reported.

Case Presentation: A 69-year-old woman was referred to our emergency department after an outpatient echocardiogram revealed a "thrombus-like" formation involving the right heart. Two weeks before she had undergone percutaneous vertebroplasty of the third to fifth lumbar vertebrae due to osteoporotic fractures.

Aim: To demonstrate how workshop and mentoring across a network of radiotherapy centers helped in transitioning from point A to volume-based image guided brachytherapy in carcinoma cervix.

Materials And Methods: Based on discussion with different centers across the network, the lapses in cervical cancer treatment were identified and a workshop was designed to change the practice pattern. The main focus of the workshop was to streamline EBRT dose prescription protocols and implement volume based image guided brachytherapy through mentoring and hands on training.
