Precise tracking of axonal transport is key to deciphering neuronal functions. To achieve long-term imaging at both ultrastructural and macroscopic resolutions, it is critical to develop fluorescent transport tracers with high photostability and biocompatibility. Herein, we report the investigation of nanographene (NG)-based polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) as near-infrared (NIR)-emissive neuronal tracers.

The basics about arynes and their applications in synthetic organic chemistry are briefly presented, and the concept of atropisomerism is defined, highlighting that it is a time-dependent form of isomerism and chirality. It is remembered that racemization is a macroscopic and statistical irreversible process, while enantiomerization is a nanoscopic reversible process that occurs at the molecular scale, with racemization being twice as fast as enantiomerization. The concept of aryne atropisomers is introduced with a naive question: Can synthetically useful nonracemic aryne atropisomers having a triple bond ortho to the stereogenic single bond exist in solution? It was found that such aryne atropisomers can be generated in solution from easily available -iodoaryl triflate precursors and excess trimethylsilylmethylmagnesium chloride.

This Account describes a body of research in the design and synthesis of molecular materials prepared from corannulene. Corannulene (CH) is a molecular bowl of carbon that can be visualized as the hydrogen-terminated cap of buckminsterfullerene. Due to this structural resemblance, it is often referred to as a buckybowl.

A hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene carrying six long, branched alkyl chains has been processed in nano- and macroscopic pore templates. An extraordinary self-organization of this material was observed within macroscopically large glass capillaries after cooling from the isotropic phase. Thereby, the columnar structures were long-range aligned along the capillary axis over several centimeters.
