Campylobacter group II phages described so far share a high degree of sequence similarity. We report the 182,833-bp genomic sequence of the closely related group II phage CP21 and show that it has a completely different genomic organization. As in other group II phages, the CP21 genome is composed of large modules separated by long DNA repeat regions which obviously trigger recombination and modular shuffling.

The impact of antibiotic therapy on the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and its relationship to gut microbiota remains unclear. This study investigated changes in ARGs, mobile genetic elements (MGEs), and gut microbial composition following tilmicosin administration in pigs. Thirty pigs were randomly divided into control (CK), low-concentration (0.

Influenza remains a persistent global health challenge, largely due to the virus' continuous antigenic drift and occasional shift, which impede the development of a universal vaccine. To address this, the identification of broadly neutralizing antibodies and their epitopes is crucial. Nanobodies, with their unique characteristics and binding capacity, offer a promising avenue to identify such epitopes.

Dinucleases of the DEDD superfamily, such as oligoribonuclease, Rexo2 and nanoRNase C, catalyze the essential final step of RNA degradation, the conversion of di- to mononucleotides. The active sites of these enzymes are optimized for substrates that are two nucleotides long, and do not discriminate between RNA and DNA. Here, we identified a novel DEDD subfamily, members of which function as dedicated deoxydinucleases (diDNases) that specifically hydrolyze single-stranded DNA dinucleotides in a sequence-independent manner.

Viruses infecting archaea play significant ecological roles in marine ecosystems through host infection and lysis, yet they have remained an underexplored component of the virosphere. In this study, we recovered 451 archaeal viruses from a subtropical estuary, identifying 63 that are associated with the dominant marine order Poseidoniales (Marine Group II Archaea). Phylogenetic analyses of a subset of complete and nearly-complete viral genomes assigned these viruses to the order Magrovirales, a lineage of Poseidoniales viruses, and identified a novel group of viruses distinct from Magrovirales.

Plastic pollution is a significant environmental challenge of contemporary age. Polystyrene (PS), among the most commonly used plastic polymers worldwide, is highly durable and difficult to degrade. Despite various disposal strategies, PS continues to impact biodiversity, human health, and ecosystems.
