The interaction between l-Arg and calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) in sodium acetate-acetic acid buffer (pH=4) was investigated with the use of neutral red (NR) dye as a spectral probe coupled with UV-vis absorption, fluorescence, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy technique. The UV absorption spectroscopy indicated that l-Arg interacted with ctDNA via electrostatic force and the fluorescence enhancing of the DNA-NR system verified the electrostatic interaction. In addition, detectable changes in the CD spectrum of ctDNA in the presence of l-Arg indicated conformational changes in the DNA double helix after interaction with the drug. Docking studies were found to corroborate the experimental results. All these results prove that this drug interacts with ctDNA via an electrostatic binding mode.

Cyanobacteria blooms are concerning due to algal toxins like microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR). Despite progress in detecting MC-LR and understanding its toxic effects, including calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) damage, the mechanisms for fluorescent probe detection of MC-LR and its binding to CT-DNA are poorly understood. In this study, we designed three fluorescent probes for MC-LR detection.

2-Oxoglutarate (2OG) dependent N-methyl lysine demethylases (JmjC-KDMs) regulate eukaryotic transcription. We report studies showing that isolated forms of all human KDM4 and KDM5 JmjC enzymes catalyse demethylation of N-methylated Arg-3 of histone H2a. Unexpectedly, the results reveal that KDM4E and, less efficiently, KDM4D catalyse C-4 hydroxylation of Arg-20 of H2a on peptides, recombinant H2a, and calf histone extracts, including when the Arg-20 guanidino group is N-methylated.

In this work, novel intrinsic electronic absorption (250-400 nm) with a molar extinction coefficient of 752 Mcm at 250 nm, arising from photoinduced electron transfer involving charged amino acid side chains and the polypeptide backbone, along with luminescence (300-500 nm) with quantum yield of 0.011 from subsequent charge recombination, was observed in salmon sperm Protamine (PRM). The absorption of PRM was attributed to the previously identified Peptide Backbone-to-Side chain Charge Transfer (PBS-CT) from the polypeptide backbone to the abundant cationic headgroups of Arginine in PRM, while the luminescence was believed to originate from charge recombination within the charge-separated excited states of PRM.

This experiment evaluated the influence of creep feeding supplementation on productive and reproductive performance and on serum metabolome profile in Nelore (Bos indicus) heifers. Female calves were assigned to treatments: Creep (n = 190), with ad libitum access to a nutritional supplement from 70 to 220 days after birth, or Control (n = 140), without supplementation. After weaning (Day 220), both groups followed the same pasture and nutritional management.

Background: The rumen of neonatal calves has limited functionality, and establishing intestinal microbiota may play a crucial role in their health and performance. Thus, we aim to explore the temporal colonization of the gut microbiome and the benefits of early microbial transplantation (MT) in newborn calves.
Results: We followed 36 newborn calves for 2 months and found that the composition and ecological interactions of their gut microbiomes likely reached maturity 1 month after birth.
