We tested a one batch reaction method for the transcription and the insect cell-free translation from undigested plasmids without any centrifugation steps. The efficiency of protein synthesis reached 74-112% of that achieved using the conventional procedure. This simplified method will help expedite the high throughput insect cell-free protein production.

Several protein expression platforms exist for a wide variety of biopharmaceutical needs. A substantial proportion of research and development into protein expression platforms and their optimization since the mid-1900s is a result of the production of viral antigens for use in subunit vaccine research. This review discusses the seven most popular forms of expression systems used in the past decade-bacterial, insect, mammalian, yeast, algal, plant and cell-free systems-in terms of advantages, uses and limitations for viral antigen production in the context of subunit vaccine research.

The cotton leafworm, Spodoptra littoralis, causes great damage to cotton crops. A new, safer method than insecticide is necessary for its control. Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) are metalloid nanomaterial, with extensive biological activities.

This study aimed to achieve two main objectives: first, to determine whether the virulence factors of symbiotic bacteria of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) against insect hosts are cell-associated or secreted, and to shed light on the underlying mechanisms of pathogenicity; and second, to identify and evaluate the standalone pathogenicity of symbiotic bacteria associated with entomopathogenic nematodes against Tenebrio molitor. Three bacterial species, Xenorhabdus nematophila (A41, SC, A18 and SF), Photorhabdus kayaii, and P. thracensis, were isolated and characterized via phylogenetic analysis of 16S-rRNA and gyrB genes.

The adhesive function of cell surface proteins can be visually assessed through direct observation; however, the underlying structures that mediate adhesion typically remain invisible at the nanoscale level. This hinders knowledge on the diversity of molecular architectures responsible for cell-cell adhesion. Drosophila E-cadherin (DE-cadherin), a classical cadherin with a unique domain structure, demonstrates adhesive function; however, it lacks a structural model that explains its adhesion mechanism.
