Objective: To determine the possible role of prokineticin 2 in varicocele by inducing varicoceles in adult rats.
Methods: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were used for sham operation (n = 10) and varicocele (n = 30) groups. Experimental varicocele was induced by partial ligation of the left renal vein in the varicocele, whereas the sham operation group only received a sham induction of varicocele. Left testes were harvested for real-time quantitative polymerase chair readtion analysis 2, 4, and 8 weeks after the induction of varicocele.
Results: The expression of prokineticin 2 mRNA in 8-week varicocele-induced rats was significantly higher (P < .05) than that in the sham operation group.
Conclusion: The present study suggests that prokineticin 2 expression is increased by varicocele induction and it may have a role in varicocele-induced infertility.

Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a life-threatening arrhythmia often leading to sudden cardiac death, particularly in critically ill patients. Refractory VT, characterized by recurrent episodes requiring intervention, poses unique challenges for management, necessitating advanced diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This systematic review evaluates the impact of imaging and pharmacological treatments in managing refractory VT in critically ill patients.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe condition that often leads to permanent functional impairments. The current treatment options are limited and there is a need for more effective treatments. Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) have shown promise in promoting neuroregeneration and modulating immune response.

Background: Although extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an effective technique for life support, the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) during ECMO support remains high. Dexmedetomidine (DEX), which has been widely used for sedation during ECMO, possesses several properties that help reduce the occurrence of AKI. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of DEX on kidney function during ECMO.

Purpose: We conducted a more comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture (AA) in perioperative pain management.
Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) findings were retrieved from the Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Web of Science, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang, VIP, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from their inception to March 2024 using the search terms "pain", "auriculotherapy", and "randomized controlled trial". The experimental group was treated with AA alone or in combination with analgesic drugs, whereas the control group was treated with sham auricular acupuncture, placebo, conventional treatment, or no treatment.
